Crock Pot Chocolate Cake

No-Oven Cake Baking

You've promised your family a delicious, chocolate cake for dessert and now you discover that your oven is on the blink. What in the world can you do? No store-bought cake will please the family so that idea is no good. I know! Get out the crock pot! Once you make a crock pot chocolate cake you won't be in any hurry to fix the oven!

If your oven has failed you you're left with few options for making a cake. A toaster oven isn't large enough to hold most cake pans; a skillet will burn the cake on the bottom. That's why your crock pot offers the perfect solution.

Make most any cake mix, from a box or recipe, and bake it in your crock pot. Spray the crock pot well with non-stick cooking spray, making sure you coat the bottom as well as the sides. Mix the batter according to the recipe and pour it into the crock pot. Set the dial for the highest setting, cover, and allow to cook for an hour or two.

The amount of time needed to cook the cake can vary greatly depending upon the size of crock pot you have. However, you can easily tell if it's finished or not if the cake begins to pull away from the sides. Limit the amount of times you remove the lid to check on the cake. As the steam escapes it can cause you to have to cook the cake even longer. Also, when removing the lid, take care not to let the moisture drip from the lid onto the top of the cake.

There are lots of different cakes you can make depending upon the things you add to the crock pot. For example, pour chocolate syrup in the bottom, pour in the batter for the cake, then cook. The cake then comes with it's own topping. Make a white cake with chocolate syrup in the bottom for one type of dessert; a chocolate cake with chocolate syrup for another.

Other things you can use to make assorted cakes include cherries, pineapples, apples, caramels, chocolate bars, marshmallows, chocolate chips, cookie crumbles and similar things. Some of these things can be put in the bottom of the crock pot, with the cake batter on top, or you can bake the cake first then add the toppings. No matter what type of cake you make it will be really soft when cooked in a crock pot.

Allow the finished cake to cool for 20 to 30 minutes before serving. Everyone will love the cake so much that you'll likely never bake a cake in an oven again!
