Crock Pots Are a Convenient, Year-Round Cooking Tool

Sean Meehan
When we think of food from slow cookers like Crock Pots, most of us imagine cozying up to a steaming bowl of stew on a cold winter day. But using Crock Pots doesn't have to be limited to when it's cold outside. They're also a great way to prepare home-cooked summertime meals because they generate less heat than a conventional oven or range and require little prep and cleanup time. No matter what time of year it is, a slow cooker provides an easy way to prepare great tasting meals.

Crock Pots are excellent tools for cooking up hearty comfort food for cold weather. Add potatoes, carrots, and onions to beef broth and meat and you'll end up with an amazing, thick stew perfect for warming cold families. But when you're craving lighter fare, don't be afraid to embrace the Crock Pot as well. A slow cooker is an excellent tool for making vegetable soups and roast chickens, which, along with a cool salad, are perfect for summer nights. But no matter what the season, slow cookers provide all you need for a meal in one pot. With a slow cooker, meats, vegetables, starches, and seasonings are all combined, so you'll be sure to get the nutrients you need in every Crock Pot meal.

Another reason that Crock Pots are useful any time of the year is they allow food to be prepared with minimal hands-on time. All you have to do is add meat, water, and vegetables and turn the pot on. Come back in a few hours and you'll have a homemade meal to enjoy. Clean up is easy too; just remove the inner pot from the outer container, wipe it down and pop it in the dishwasher.

Perhaps the most rewarding reason for using a Crock Pot, however, is its low energy usage and relatively safe cooking method. Crock Pots use much less energy than cooking with a microwave or stove, so you'll be saving money as well as time when you use them. And they're safe. It's ok to leave a Crock Pot on when you leave the house because they don't get too hot. In contrast, you wouldn't want to leave your oven on all day while you were at work.

Crock Pots are convenient cooking tools for any time of the year. They're easy to use, they cook up tasty meals, and they require little hands-on time. So, what are you waiting for? Start slow cooking today!
