The concept of the upscale, outdoor shopping malls prevalent elsewhere in the country is somewhat new to Northeast Ohio. In an environment that lends itself to sheets of ice and feet of snow during half the year, the malls are somewhat of a gamble, but the newest one, Crocker Park in Westlake, has done it right.

Crocker Park, unlike its predecessor Legacy Village, located near Beechwood Mall in Lyndhurst, Ohio, boasts of clothing stores and restaurants that people will actually shop and dine in. Unlike Legacy Village, which is mostly filled with expensive home furnishing stores, pricey clothing boutiques tailored toward older women, high class kitchen supply stores and upscale restaurants, Crocker Park has something for everyone.

Crocker Park, which is conveniently located off Interstate 90, boasts eateries that cater to a wide range of pocketbooks, as well as popular clothing stores that attract multiple age groups. All businesses are within walking distance of the free parking garage or parking meters, and are packaged in a clean, architecturally impressive and comfortable "small town street" backdrop.

Some of the national chains that have opened their doors to Crocker Park customers include: Abercrombie & Fitch, Ann Taylor, GAP, J. Crew, Talbots and Victoria's Secret. Specialty shops also abound in Crocker Park, from shoe designer Steve Madden, purses by Coach and Urban Outfitters, which offers ultra-hip and retro-looking fashions, as well as quirky home design products. Swedish clothing manufacturer H&M, which offers stylish but affordable clothing and accessories, also makes its home at the mall. Trader Joe's is a small grocery store that sells a wide range of organic, ethnic and specialty foods. The mall contains both a Borders and Barnes & Noble, so the avid reader is sure to find a nook at Crocker Park.

Crocker Park contains 22 different restaurants, with options ranging between snacks and cheap meals at establishments like Baskin-Robbins and Subway, to elite dining destinations like Hyde Park Prime and Blake's Seafood Restaurant & Bar.

For those who love Crocker Park more than the typical shopper, high-end luxury apartments and condos are available on-site. One-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans are available, as well as office space for businesses that would like to be situated near this prestigious hub of activity.

People of every age and salary range will find something to do at Crocker Park. Information about stores, special events, restaurants, employment, living quarters and directions are available on the Web site, http:www.crockerpark.com.

My husband and I are from Michigan and we go to Cedar Point in July every year for a week. I came across a Crocker Park fan website http://www.crockerparkohio.com and was intrigued to see more, so I decided to go up there for a day with my husband. It was a great shopping experience with good stores and beautiful scenery in the shopping area. We ate at the Cheesecake Factory and had a pretty good meal.

We are definitely going to be back again next year.
