"Croft Killer" WET Coming to Xbox 360 and Playstation 3

Grab Your Towels: Sierra and A2M Are Getting WET!

Leonardo De La Rocha
Sierra Entertainment this week announced their latest title, WET. The game is slotted to be released on Xbox 360 ad Playstation 3 in 2008 and is being developed by the Canadian A2M team that's already made a name for itself turning some of our television and movie favorites such as Power Rangers and an array of Disney shows into works of video game art.

WET is already being labeled by some as Sierra's upcoming "Croft killer", and at first glance it indeed looks to be a buzz worthy mash-up of acrobatics a-la Prince of Persia and sexy, shooter action found in Tomb Raider.

I can't say for certain whether or not WET will be a real contender for next year's best third-person shooter. But I can give you some details as to the game play, storyline and share some artist's renditions of WET's heroine, Rubi - a voluptuous, acrobatic killer with all the right moves to generate serious hype around the game.

The storyline was written by one of the lead writers from Fox's television hit 24 and borrows from the bombshell women assassin number made famous by Tarantinio's Kill Bill. So unlike the disproportionate, vampire killing, dinosaur hunting video game vixens of the past WET follows Rubi, a government-approved mercenary, through her "wet works" or covert assassination missions. When Rubi agrees to help a wealthy man find and bring home his wayward son, shit hits the fan and the tables are turned as the man who hired Rubi isn't who he appeared to be. Now Rubi's on the run, killing everything that gets in her way, needing to find the man who left her for dead.

Toting dual Colt Python pistols and a hefty samurai sword, Rubi uses her acrobatics to climb on ledges, slide under obstacles, swing on poles, run on walls, slide down ladders and flip effortlessly through the air all while taking out targets with innovative 3rd person controls that can be switched from auto-aim for newbs to manual for veteran gamers.

What's more, an impressive "modular" animation system allows Rubi to fire her guns from any of her death-defying acrobatic states, as well as allow her to dispense pain pills in the middle of a cartwheel or while hanging upside-down from a steel ladder.

Scott Webber over at ConsoleMonster.com reports that WET's production is only about 10% complete, but I have little doubts that WET will make a big splash when it debuts.

I could definitely see this turning into a great game, if the story is done right and the third person aiming is accurate and smooth even while "firing her guns from any of her death-defying acrobatic states." I am a huge third person shooter fan, so I will keep this one on my watch list. Any word about it being online with multiplayer capabilities? We don't have a game full of hot chicks running around shooting each other, do we? Hmmm... I think I'm on to something there. Good-bye Master Chief... hello 'Wet' dreams!

A good plot is exactly what this kind of shoot and slash genre needs. Throw in some hi-def graphics and I'm all over it.
