Cross the North Atlantic Ocean in a Flats Boat

Extreme Vacations and World Records

Ranger
Robert and Ralph Brown are leaving the United States of America, bound for Hamburg Germany. They are voyaging across the Atlantic Ocean in an 21 foot open fisherman flats boat to raise money for wounded American soldiers and their families.

Ralph has spent the last 20 years perfecting his unique shallow draft boat. Ralph and his brother, Robert have tested their blue water sea legs by traveling across the open Atlantic to the island of Bermuda in 2007. They crossed 800 miles of open ocean, navigating with a GPS unit and a compass.

This voyage will take them from Tampa, Florida, up the US East Coast, to Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Scotland, England and ending in Frankfurt am Mainz, Germany, where they hope to have a celebration with the wounded heroes being evacuated from our current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

You can join them in the Voyage across the Atlantic Ocean from Tampa Bay, Florida to Hamburg, Germany (over 6,200 miles) as you follow vicariously on their "Cross the Atlantic" blogspot.

While this journey may seem impossible, it is far more possible than the larger task - breaking through the barrier of complacency that causes our society to largely ignore the heroes who sacrifice all to keep us safe. The fundraising goal is a small one for a great nation - 3 million dollars, but a drop in the bucket compared to the need.

At this point in the journey, the brothers are on schedule and on budget. July 11th finds them leaving New York harbor bound for Boston. They have traveled over 1200 miles via the Intercoastal Waterway. They are confident in the boat, and confident in their resources of fuel and gear. The boat can carry over 300 gallons of fuel. The complete voyage should last another forty days.

"There is no such thing as coincidence ... God is always in Control. I am very comfortable with the seaworthiness of the DreamBoat Intruder. I know there is real danger, just like there is in everyday life, I know that in the event of disaster, I trust my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I know my soul will rest in Heaven. It is not how good I am, but rather the Goodness and Forgiveness of God."
Ralph Brown
