Dana Barnett
When you're planning your next vacation, there's no need to look further than Crossville, Tennessee. The town of Crossville is located in Cumberland County in the beautiful Cumberland Plateau, off of I-40 in the middle of the state. Situated between Knoxville to the East, Nashville to the West, and Chattanooga to the South, Crossville has an unspoiled quality that these other larger cities are lacking. But don't let that fool you--even though Crossville is a smaller town, there is still plenty for you and your family to do.

First, there is the golf. Crossville is nicknamed "The Golf Capital of Tennessee" and rightly so. Fairfield Glade, a vacation resort located in Crossville, boasts five golf courses and there are six more courses in the Crossville vicinity that offer spectacular views. At Cumberland Mountain State Park, golf enthusiasts can enjoy Jack Nicklaus' Bear Trace course and at Renegade Mountain Resort, golfers can enjoy a game on the highest elevation course in the entire state.

In addition to golfing, the Crossville area offers travelers many outdoor activities including hiking, boating, and camping. There are several beautiful waterfalls in the area including Ozone Falls and Burgess Falls where visitors can enjoy the splendor of the cascading water amid the breathtaking Tennessee scenery. Nearby Cumberland Mountain State Park and Cumberland Trail State Park offer spectacular hiking and other outdoor activities such as boating, camping, and picnicking.

If you're not the outdoorsy type, Crossville provides travelers with plenty of indoor activities as well. The downtown area of Crossville on Highway 127 features many historic attractions such as the Palace Theatre and Crossville's courthouse. Visitors can also enjoy the famous Cumberland County Playhouse where professional productions are performed year round. There are several museums in the area too. The Homestead Tower and Museum and the Pioneer Hall Museum are both interesting places to visit to learn about the history of Crossville.

Shopping is also one of Crossville's attractions. The area is brimming with antique stores and gift shops. Located right off of I-40, The Factory Stores of America Outlet Mall is a popular place with stores such as Liz Claiborne, Rack Room Shoes, and Vanity Fair. For yard sale enthusiasts, Crossville is one of the cities along the route of the World's Longest Yard Sale that is held every August and runs along Highway 127 from Kentucky to Alabama. For four days, bargain hunters can scour the wares of the sellers, haggling for the best price.

A trip to the Crossville, Tennessee may be just the type of relaxing vacation that you and your family are looking for. From golf to shopping, Crossville's diversity has something for everyone.
