Crouching Lion Inn on Oahu - Great Place to Dine for Lunch

John Kelly
It's been a busy morning. You've seen the Dole Plantation and tasted pineapple in more ways than you care to imagine. You made your way across the pineapple fields to the beautiful beaches of the North Shore of Oahu. If you witnessed these waves in the winter you were probably able to watch surfers as these seemingly giant waves constantly rose and crashed into the shoreline. But after all that, you realize you are hungry. You've made your way around the island to a little place called Kaaawa. This is located right on the Kamehameha Highway as you make your way around the island of Oahu.

You pull into the parking lot beneath a huge cliff with a distinct looking rock formation on the top. This formation represents the "Lion". The legend of young warrior sent to be watchman of the cliff. He was there so long he couldn't rise and turned to stone. You can read more about the legend at the Crouching Lion Inn.

You will be warmly welcomed and seated. Try to get the seating on the front porch if at all possible. The ocean view is fabulous and the temperature is always near perfect. No bugs or flies to worry about. I have dined at the Crouching Lion in Oahu in both June and December and the weather was perfect both times. You can sit indoors if you choose or there is a bar area located just off the front porch with additional seating as well as a large screen television.

There were nine in our group we ordered broadly across the menu, everything from soup and salad to chicken breast and sandwiches. The food was fresh, hot, and well prepared on both occasions. The service was fast and friendly. You do need to be aware that the Crouching Lion Inn is a very popular spot for tourist and tourist buses to stop on their way around the island. So, if your timing is a little off you could get there when they are really busy. If so, be patient, the view and the food are worth the wait! Oh, when you do visit the Crouching Lion Inn, don't forget to try their famous "Mile High Coconut Cream Pie". It is fabulous!

Finally, don't leave without going in and visit with a local artisan. There is artwork for sale and many times there is local artist craftsman on hand showing there craft. These activities are always interesting and you may get the opportunity to buy a blown glass sea turtle or other locally produced artwork.
