This video show a 26-foot rogue wave as it smashes into the cruise ship, Louis Majesty, which was sailing from Barcelona to Genoa, Italy. Two people were killed and fourteen others were injured. The ship was in the Mediterranean with approximately 2,000 people on board when the wave hit. It smashed the glass windshields on the bridge, which is one of the higher points on the ship.

The fourteen people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the Greek coast guard said in a statement. The two people who died were identified as men, one from Germany and the other from Italy.

"The windows in a public area on deck 5 on the forward part of the vessel smashed resulting (in) the fatal injury of two passengers of German and Italian nationality while 14 more passengers suffered light injuries," was reported in a statement released by the cruise line.

The ship asked for an emergency docking in Barcelona and arrived at the Spanish port shortly after 9 p.m. Ambulances took the injured and dead to the hospital near that port. One 62 year old woman from Spain broke both her legs in the freak wave incident.

The ship had set sail on Wednesday from the Mediterranean port of Cartagena and was originally going to stop in Barcelona, but bad weather in that port caused the ship to continue on to Genoa. The emergency of the Rouge wave put the ship's travels back to the original plan. It was the closest place to get the injured help.

The Captain said there had been no signs at all that a wave that size would hit from the look of the sea or with the handling of the "Louis Majesty. He did say the winds had been about 60 miles per hour in the area they were sailing.

The ship was hit by three "abnormally high" waves up to 26 ft high. The force of the wave broke the windshield in the forward area. Windows were smashed as high as deck 5 on the ship. The jolt of the wave caught the crew and passengers completely off guard.

The Louis Majesty is an 18 year old ship that use to sail with the Norwegian Cruise Line, It left that fleet in October. The ship was on a 12 night Western Mediterranean cruise and had various ports of calls planned before the wave hit the ship.

Louis Cruises, the cruise line of the "Louis Majesty", does a big business in that neck of the woods and is one of the major cruise lines for sailing in that part of the world.

Wow. Pretty scary. They knew it was coming. Too bad they didn't position the ship to take it better.

That's why I refuse to go on a cruise ship. I caossbly drink all the water and I know nothing about swimming. I will take my chances on the ground.
