Crystal Bowersox on American Idol 2010: Top 6 Performances 4/27/2010

Crystal Not the Popular Favorite Tonight on Idol but Everyone Still Loves Mommasox

Crystal Bowersox performance on American Idol too fast

Tonight Crystal Bowersox sang and played her guitar. She had a shorter dress on with cowboy boots and she looked like she had a bit of a country flair. The song that she performed by Shania Twain was No One Needs to Know Right Now. Shania told her to keep it light and cheery, which doesn't seem to be Crystal's strong suite.

Crystal looked great and she did attempt to do a country song, but maybe it was a little fast or maybe her harmonies were distracting with her back-up singers, but my impression was that it was a little hokey and not the Crystal that I loved last week. I didn't feel the connection.

The judges were kind with their remarks and told her they still loved her even though this wasn't her favorite performance. Kara and Simon both said they felt that Crystal was missing conviction or maybe they meant connection to the song, and Simon even went so far to tell Shania that he didn't really think the song was memorable compared to some of the other tunes.

At the end of Crystal's performance after she heard the judges feedback she replied that sometimes the size didn't matter, referring to the song, which got a laugh out of the audience and the judges. She also said that she was throwing hints to her boyfriend and that someday he would "man up".

In the past, some idols have been cautioned not to talk about their significant others because it might impact their impression on the audience and affect the votes in a negative way. Since Crystal is a momma, and affectionately dubbed Mamasox, maybe her relationship with her boyfriend and a possibility of marriage makes her seem more vulnerable.

We still love her, but the arrangement didn't do her justice and maybe happy and light-hearted just isn't Crystal's sweet spot.
