Her 26 year old boyfriend, Tony Kusian, went home just hours before Crystal sang Patty Griffin's "Up to the Mountain" on the Tuesday episode where she faced off against Lee DeWyze for the title of American Idol 2010.
Crystal and Tony's breakup was a mutual decision, according to the Joplinesque dredlocked singer from Elliston, Ohio, but it came more from Tony's unhappiness with her new celebrity status. "... He wasn't cool with the lifestyle," she said.
"We're both logical, grown adults," she continued, "He's a small town guy and it's fine. But I'm a small town girl but I want this. I want this more than anything -- this career, this lifestyle. I didn't think he was up for it. He didn't think he was up for it."
This contradicts prior reports that Crystal and Tony were actually married in Vegas last March, and more recent rumors that they were planning to tie the knot. Tony is not the father of Crystal's year old son, whose name is also Tony. But according to Radar Online, the father is also named Tony:
"The father of Crystal's son is a guy named Tony. They had a great relationship and he was a total gentleman with her," a source close to Crystal told RadarOnline.com. "Unfortunately he had to move back to Bosnia because he had another child with a woman in Romania who couldn't afford to take care of the kid anymore so he moved back to support his child."
"American Idol" judge, Kara DioGuardi, was totally supportive of Crystal's ambitions, saying "You have to do your music. It's not a choice for you. It's what makes you whole. If somebody can't hang with that -- I'm sure he's a lovely guy but right now this is your dream."
Crystal has always described herself as a mellow person and she isn't nursing any hard feelings. "We're going to be friends for a long time," she said.

Post a CommentShe looked like she had chemistry with Lee may be the boyfriend saw that too
Rarely do people who "knew them when" gracefully move into the shadow of the limelight now shining on loved ones. She may be better off learning that now.
the story behind the story..fine report Valerie!
Good article. I heard about this. Crystal seems tough enough to go on with her life.
Great writing! Now I'm confused though - in Crystal's interview this morning with USA Today she says her son is 16 months old.
That's bad. For someone with a huge tradition of the country, the show was Bowersox's ultimate go-get. But who knows, as she is now in a position to do more for her man, he could have taken a different perspective to things - not that he decided to stay.
The baby daddy was with the wrong baby? Give us a break.
I like the coverage you do on these... I'll have to watch so I can say something besides "duh". On the other hand, even after watching I maybe couldn't...
Well let's not knock Ted Mack, Rick. He gave us Ann-Margret, Teresa Brewer, Pat Boone, Irene Cara and Connie Francis. Who's Sorry Now?
Well-report, as always, Valerie...but holy cow, now we have to keep track of 2nd-place finishers' personal lives in what amounts to The New Ted Mack Amateur Hour?
