Crystal Bowersox Loses "American Idol"

Fans Are Perplexed and Bewildered by the 9th Season Results

American Idol fans of all shapes and sizes are still in shock at the results of Wednesday's finale results show. In its 9th season American Idol started like any other talent show. Contestants good and bad exposed themselves and their talent, or lack thereof. We were all excited to see what this year might hold and what we would find out would tarnish American Idols' reputation, perhaps for good.

As season 9 rolled along, many of us were left scratching our heads and wondering what we missed. The talent was thin this year with the exception of a few. Most however lacked star power, personality and stage presence. It seems we had become spoiled and by the 9th season, expectant for the talent to blow us away as it had in years past.

This was not to be this year and so fans latched on to the two or three that showed us the most promise. Many fans took an immediate liking to Crystal Bowersox, the young mother from Ohio. She was the only contestant who proved she had a right to be on the Idol stage. Her stage presence and outstanding vocals blew us away while the other contestants failed. Lee DeWyze was the other favorite who can sing a song quite well, but who lacked any real personality or showmanship. To say the least, many fans geared up every week to see what Crystal would do next.

When we were down to the final two; Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze, we thought the result would be a no-brainer. After all, Crystal dominated the show the previous night, but alas it was not to be. The fans had spoken and so another merely adequate performer would be added to the repertoire of American Idol alumni.

Seasons past has proven that the winner of American Idol is not the determining factor for who will have the most success, after all, I can think of a handful of past winner's who have not quite measured up to Idol status. David Cook, Taylor Hicks and Kris Allen come to mind. And let's not forget about those who didn't even make it to the final two. Chris Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson have had immense success and yet, the voters failed to take them to the glittery finish line.

So Crystal Bowersox fans don't cry for her. She is already a star with a cult following via YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. She's a powerhouse, a songwriter and was destined to be a huge success. Forget about Idol. Just remember that it's been the medium to superstardom for many who have gone before her.

Lee DeWyze, we hope you have a lot of success and enjoy the ride. Perhaps as you grow and learn you will bring more to the table. In the meantime, place your idol caps back into winter storage and begin the countdown to another season!
