Crystal Bowersox and Siobhan Magnus Deliver the Goods on American Idol Top 10 Girls

Last night, the American Idol Top 10 Girls performed Billboard Hits. While we saw a mix of terrific and horrific performances, Crystal Bowersox and Siobhan Magnus opened and closed the show on a high note.

What Crystal Bowersox and Siobhan Magnus have in common is an indie vibe, stage presence (particularly for Bowersox), unique quirky style (particularly for Magnus), and likable personality. In a way, they remind me of what Megan Joy Corkery could have been had she been able to deliver the goods last season.

Crystal Bowersox on American Idol Top 10 Girls

Last night, Crystal Bowersox performed "As Long As I See The Light" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. She was able to achieve a balance between putting a gospel churchy spin on the song and maintaining her cool indie vibe. She was able to take musical risks without losing the essence of her style.

Simon Cowell not only complimented Crystal Bowersox on her vocals and her artistry, but he also praised her for not playing the "sick" card for sympathy votes. During her post-performance interview with Ryan Seacrest, she explained that she was glad to be able to perform and that she had been less concerned with her health and more concerned about possible disqualification.

Her performance and interview with Seacrest show her commitment to American Idol and desire to go the extra mile to give the fans her best.

As MTV's Jim Cantiello put it, "Crystal may have sun 'Mama's comin' home,' but she's not going anywhere. Thankfully."

Siobhan Magnus on American Idol Top 10 Girls

Last night, Siobhan Magnus surprised the judges and audience by performing Aretha Franklin's Think. While there were a few inconsistent' American Idol' Recap: Crystal Bowersox Returns To Save The Day, MTV moments in the performance, she closed the show with ridiculously high glory notes that only dogs could hear.

And Siobhan Magnus scores points for invoking Kelly Clarkson. When Kara DioGuardi asked Siobhan how she was able to hit those notes, she responded that she had figured it out by belting out Kelly Clarkson in the shower.

Randy Jackson called the performance bold, fearless, and "dope." Simon called her strange, but it was a compliment. He also praised her for being interesting and talented.

Based on this week's performances on American Idol, Haeley Vaughn and Lacey Brown are probably in danger, though Haeley could dodge another bullet this week because of her uniqueness as a black country singer. It's a safe bet that neither Crystal Bowersox nor Siobhan Magnus will be leaving American Idol this week.
