"CSI Las Vegas": Bump and Grind Recap

"CSI Las Vegas" Bump and Grind opens with Cab Calloway's song, Everybody Eats When They Come to My House, playing in the background. A man is chopping celery, carrots and parsley, than adds a can of Quahog clams, a dash of ground pepper, and shredded credit card to a pot of soup. He ladles the soup into a bowl and tops it off with a slice of human ear. The killer's victim is tied to a chair, being force fed spoonfuls of ear soup.

CSI team members, Dr. Ray Langston and Nick Stokes, along with Captain Jim Brass arrive at a truck docking station. They've been summoned to check out suspicious goo leaking from the back of a semi. "What is the code for suspicious goo?" asks Stokes. Dr. Ray wittily snaps back with "666."

The truck driver is ordered to open the back of the truck and tons of shredded trash falls out. The CSI's quickly notice what appears to be shredded body parts, along with plastic shavings of a credit card. Next, the team discovers an eyeball, which Brass shines a light on and proclaims, "Here's looking at you kid."

The truck manifest leads Nick Stokes and CSI team leader, Catherine Willows, to a shredding facility. Greg Sanders arrives with a warrant and the shredding company supervisor walks the team through the shredding process. After reviewing in-house camera footage, Sanders notices items are shipped in plastic containers; the perfect place to hide a body. A search of the shredder conducted by Stokes reveals more grated body parts.

Back at the CSI lab, Greg, David and Sarah sort through the trash from the goo-leaking truck and begin making a pile of the shredded body. After the team completes the sort, medical examiner, Dr. Albert Robbins begins the grueling task of putting the pieces together. Robbins discovers a bullet entry wound in a skull fragment, along with a fragmented bullet.

Langston receives a letter from Nevada Department of Corrections. Inside is a single kidney bean and handwritten note with "Thinking of you. XOXO, Nate." Langston wads the paper up and throws it across the room when Sarah walks in. She informs Langston that she found more credit cards shavings in the trash. As she hands the evidence bag to Ray, Sarah notices the bean on the floor and hands it to Langston. As she walks out of his office, he folds his hand around the bean with a look of concern on his face.

Lab testing reveals traces of Quahog clams on the credit card shreds. Hodges is able to pull the name of the cardholder from the magnetic strip on one of the plastic shards. Turns out, the card belongs to Larry Lamotte, founder of I.D. Preserve; an identity theft company.

Capt. Brass and Dr. Langston head over to I.D. Preserve corporate offices. They are met by Julius Caplan, head of corporate security and Lamotte's executive assistant, Elaine Travers. Caplan informs Brass and Langston that Lamotte is on vacation and can't be reached, but moments later Lamotte walks into the room. In a closed room meeting Lamotte reveals his identity was stolen, but he doesn't want to spill the beans for fear it would ruin his company.

As the CSI team continues their investigation they discover Lamotte has been selling clients personal information instead of protecting them. He has thousands of complaints filed against him and plenty of potential suspects.

One person moves to the forefront of suspects. Lee Devries drove a truck through the front of I.D. Preserve and ended up receiving a 6-month jail sentence. After his release, Devries took a job with a temp agency that supplies workers to the shredding company.

Devries is called into the precinct and interrogated by Brass. Devries confesses that Lamotte destroyed his life by selling his ID and left him with credit card charges and mortgages, but has an alibi and Brass releases him.

In the meantime, Greg finds a second bullet which he believes has been in the victim's body for quite some time. Sarah discovers another company handles the plastic bins shipped to the shredding company. The owner is Lamotte's head of security, Julius Caplan.

Closer inspection of the plastic bins reveals human blood. Las Vegas police, along with Sidle and Stokes arrive at Caplan's home where they discover a locked room stocked with cans of Quahog clams, along with a gun.

Sarah continues her search through the house and finds Caplan lying in a lounge chair by the pool with a bullet through his head. Sarah locates the discharged bullet and then notices an odd void in the blood spray pattern. Then, she finds a beer bottle at the bottom of the pool. The evidence points to Caplan knowing his assailant.

Brass brings Lamotte in for questioning and informs him that Caplan is dead. He then tells Lamotte that Caplan whose real name is Julius Kirsch, also goes by other names including Julius Child, which he earned working as a mob boss. His M.O. was to serve his victims dinner with added ingredients such as ground up casino chips and credit card shreds.

At the lab, CSI investigators review surveillance cam footage from Caplan's neighbor. A car is caught on film leaving Caplan's house. The gun found in Caplan's house matches the bullet that killed the still unidentified shredded man.

The gun has a history and also matches a bullet found in a robbery that occurred in Reno 6 years prior. The bullet had been retrieved from a man found in a dumpster and left for dead. A few days after surgery, the man known as John Doe, walked out of the hospital never to be seen again.

Reno Police Department sends the John Doe cold case to the CSI lab and Nick and Catherine begin examining the evidence. Using new crime lab technology, Greg is able to match a bullet fragment with the second bullet found in the human shred pile.

Evidence shows Shredder guy had arrived in Vegas carrying Larry Lamotte's ID and a bullet lodged in his body from the robbery that took place 6 years ago. Sarah was able to find an old ID from a Florida DMV database that revealed Shredder guy as Larry La Motte; leaving them to wonder who the man claiming to be Larry Lamotte really is.

A bullet casing found in the Reno cold case file provided CSI with a fingerprint which identified Larry Lamotte as Arlo Cardin; convicted of burglary, fraud and identity theft. Cardin and the real Larry La Motte had been partners in crime until Cardin shot La Motte and left him for dead in the dumpster.

Cardin confesses that he and La Motte had been crime partners and that La Motte had contacted him demanding $5 million. He then states he told Caplan to pay him, but that Caplan must have killed La Motte instead.

Nick searches Cardin's bank records and discovers he did withdraw $5 million in cash. While Stokes is talking to Catherine, the Forensic team informs her they have a hit on a plate number captured by surveillance cameras. The rental car is registered to Devries.

Vegas P.D. spots the car on the interstate and when they pull Devries over, Cardin's executive assistant steps out with her hands up. Brass retrieves a suitcase containing the money. Back at LVPD headquarters, Langston tells Elaine Travers he knows she used Devries ID to tap into his bank account to withdraw the money and rent a car in his name. Travers copped a plea by turning states evidence against her boss.

The "CSI Las Vegas" episode ends with Greg screaming on the phone with a credit card company regarding charges he didn't make. Langston tells Sidle that he received a note from Nate Haskell letting him know he was thinking of him. Sarah tells Langston to not let Haskell get inside his head. Langston replies, "He already has."
