As with all of the episodes of "CSI-NY" we find ourselves, the viewers, buried deep in the past lives of some of the Detectives who protect the streets of New York City. On this occasion the crime scene doesn't make much sense to the team. However, as we travel a bit farther into the case we find right at the top of it all is Detective Don Flack (Eddie Cahill). After a small glimpse into Det. Flack's past, we start to feel the pieces fall together.
In this episode we enjoy meeting Jo's ex, Russ Josephson (David James Elliott) who has taken the time to come to NY to share info on the new case. The "CSI" suspect is actually in 'Witness Protection' for testifying in a case, which involved Det. Flack. We learn that Flack feels guilt for having convinced this man to testify and loose contact with his wife and baby.
Viewers are not let down with "To What End" as we all get another glimpse into the world of forensic discovery tracking the carbon dust on the clown shoes which also has trace of female bone and concrete mixed in. Viewers get a glimpse of the past life of Det. Flack and we all know this will lead to a more clear view in later episodes coming this season. Learning a bit of the unknown past is what keeps some viewers returning time and time again for those they love who are in "CSI-NY". This episode keeps us guessing is what Det. Flack did good or bad, how he feels is still up for vote, as we truly aren't given a clear view of his beginning intentions or his final intentions.
I know for one I return over and over to watch Gary Sinise, his accomplishments on the set as Detective Taylor and his great steps as Producer of the series.
In the end of this episode of "CSI-New York" we catch the killer, and we see a family come together while tears of joy fall when dad meets his son for the first time. It is a great ending however, leaves the door open for the future glimpses into the past of our regular characters. Perhaps a future for Jo and Russ again, maybe a bit more stress for Det. Flack, perhaps another glimpse of that Sinise smile I myself love so much.
