CSUB Shooting Leaves One Dead in Bakersfield
Neighborhood: CSUB Campus
Bakersfield, CA 93311
United States of America
A tragedy occurred last night, October 21st, on the California State University Bakersfield campus. According to a memorandum posted on the CSUB website by campus president Horace Mitchell, an event was taking place that grew larger then it was supposed to, due to people coming to the campus that are not affiliated with the college.

A large fight broke out around 11 PM (11:39 according to the Bakersfield Californian) in parking lot F. Unfortunately someone made the poor decision to pull out a gun, shots were fired and in the end, one 18 year old woman was shot and killed. Her name was Bianca Janae Jackson. She was a recent 2010 graduate of Ridgeview High and was not currently enrolled at CSUB.

The CSUB police tried to intervene. They were alerted that there was a disturbance in the quad area. There was a fight going on and a CSUB officer had to use pepper spray to try to break it up. It was then that some of those people moved to the parking lot. The CSUB Officer had to call the Bakersfield Police Department when it was apparent that they needed more help. After they'd called for help, they heard gunshots.

People in the group helped the officer to Bianca Jackson who was lying unresponsive on the ground. The CSUB officer tried to help her until BPD and medical help came. At this time, no one else is known to have been injured.

There is no identity on the shooter as of yet but witnesses told police that a black Cadillac Escalade with tinted windows & large rims with several African American males drove around the parking lot before the shooting and that a African American man ran to the car after the shooting. The police are interested in speaking with the owner and occupants of that vehicle.

The case has been taken over by the Bakersfield Police Department but the CSUB police and staff are helping as much as they can.

If you know anything about the shooting and can help the poor girl who lost her life's murderer to be put behind bars, call Detective Dennis Murphy at 326-3861 immediately. Even if you think your info is not important, it could help the case.

President Horace Mitchell of CSUB posted on the CSUB website that the campus is safe to attend so if you are a student or staff member, you can still go to the campus. Classes will still continue.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Bianca Jackson. This was something that is so senseless. She had her entire future ahead of her and it was cut short too soon. RIP.
