Cubs Freak Out Over Peeping Game Fans

Or, "Get Over It"

This article is just fascinating. It turns out there's some folks who can see Wrigley's Stadium from the roof of their businesses. Four years ago, the Cubs got upset that this business' patrons could see their games without paying, and put up "wind screens" so that the rooftop viewers couldn't keep stealing their games.

*smirk*

It seems to be classic of a big organization to get upset when someone starts freeloading. Well, ok, it's not just big businesses that do it. But they're the funniest. Disregarding the comedic sham that is professional sports players' salaries, it always cracks me up when companies whose revenue is measured in the millions/billions freaks over losses in the thousands/millions.

I got my tax return yesterday. It was around $400. I. Was. Ecstatic. End perspective check.

It's natural to get worked up when you start to lose something. It's probably due to some complex psychology thing, having something complex to do with some kind of complex pain you had as a child or what-have-you. Whatever the reason, though, we don't like it when we lose things. We don't like it when we're not in control. We don't like it when someone else has an advantage over us, especially when it's an advantage we should rightfully have.

I've had an epiphany, though. One that just might help solve this problem. A solution that might lead to peace between the Cubs and the rooftop watchers, between the RIAA and the folks who copy and swap CDs, between Microsoft and the Open Source community, between Apple and...well, everyone:

Get over it.

No, seriously! This is practical. This is possible. This is something that could actually work. Just. Get. Over. It.

This goes for everyone. You're going to get screwed in life. Someone's going to get something you should've gotten. Someone is going to take something from you, or cheat you out of something, or get something you wanted. Sometimes, it will be something that, in reality, wasn't as much their fault as you think. Like the coworker who gets that job or position you wanted. I mean, come on! They are so incompetent! Ok, maybe they're not incompetent. But you're so much better at that than they are. Why don't your superiors recognize your obvious skills?

You would never say it, and you don't use such obvious words, but you're thinking it. Be honest.

Other times, it's going to be completely their fault. You'll be completely justified. They are wrong. They shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. Like when someone steals something from you. And some things really should be pursued. If your child is kidnapped, you find them. Period.

Some things, though....just get over it.

It's not exactly easy to get over. I'll admit it. I can barely get past surprise bank fees. But I promise, you'll feel a lot better when you just accept this fact and move on with your life.

I have to admit, I have a secret weapon in this, though.

It actually comes from Luke 12. The part where Jesus tells his disciples not to worry. He literally said to them, "You can't make your life any better by worrying about where your next paycheck is going to come from. So, don't do it."

Jesus? He had a lot of common sense wisdom. Really breaks it down, a lot of times. We're all sitting here going, "Oh, heck, I don't know what's gonna happen! What'm I gonna do?! I can't pay my bills now!" And then Jesus comes along and goes, "Is your freaking out helping?" We say, "No." And He says, "Then stop."

Jesus is pretty smart. I think you can trust Him.

He also happened to mention the fact that He's gonna take care of us.

I suppose I can see how that would be a problem to someone who doesn't accept His help. But still.

  • Get over it.
  • You're gonna be fine.
  • Jesus said that.
