Cubs' Williams Statue to Be Unveiled Tonight, and Other Assorted Cubs News
Aramis' Quad and Iowa Farm Discussion Points
Carrie Muskat has posted an article at the Cubs' website titled "Willams statue to be unveiled Tuesday." There is other Cubs' news as well.
Muskat reports that Willams has been driving around outside of Wrigley Field, tempted to take a look under the covering to make sure everything is alright. As he says, this was not something that he could have anticipated as a youngster. While playing at the professional level and playing in the World Series are things that a youngster can dream of, they cannot dream of the Hall of Fame and being individually honored with a statue, according to Williams.
Willams was often referred to as "Sweet" because of his swing that launched many home runs.
The only negative thing about the situation is that the Cubs moved the statue of Harry Caray to the bleachers to make room for Williams. I find it a sad situation when legends are dismissed after a decision has been made to honor them. Perhaps that lack of character is one reason the Cubs have failed to win in a century.
Other Cubs' news involves the fact that Aramis Ramirez, who just blasted home runs in the last couple of games, is receiving treatment for his sore right quad. The treatment started yesterday, and Ramirez is on a day-to-day basis.
I just reported on the Iowa Triple-A Cubs. They were in first place by a game, but, should they lose, they would lose everything because the Memphis team that was in second place held a tiebreaker. The Cubs lost and their season is over. Manager Mike Quade spoke to this issue, feeling that some players who were with Iowa and had been moved up to the Cubs (like Casey Coleman), should have been left there to help them win their pennant.
I don't have an opinion.
That's what's going on with the Cubs.
