Cuco's Taqueria Brings Traditional Mexican Cooking to Columbus, Ohio

Columbus, Ohio's Cuco's Taqueria and Grill provides the true flavor of Mexican cuisine. Cuco's features a mostly standard Mexican restaurant menu with a few interesting exceptions, but their dishes are executed in a traditional manner typical of Mexico as supposed to America. For instance, all their excellent tacos are served on soft corn tortillas with cabbage, instead of lettuce.

Cuco's Famous Fish Taco

Cuco's signature item is the Fish Taco, featuring lightly breaded fried fish served on soft corn tortillas with cabbage, pico de gallo, and an excellent "special sauce." The sauce blends perfectly with the pico de gallo and nicely complements the fish. This is the taco that gives Cuco's its excellent reputation.

The other tacos on Cuco's menu include an array of meat toppings. The Chipotle Chicken is especially good, with a rich, smoky flavor. These tacos are also served on soft corn tortillas and can be made into a combo with rice and beans.

Tortas Highlight the Rest of Cuco's Menu

One proof of Cuco's authenticity is the full selection of tortas on its menu. A torta is essentially a Mexican sandwich, served on hearty bread with a variety of meats and toppings, usually including jalapenos. The Cubana is great, with ham, beef franks, and pork, topped with beans, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, cheese, and jalapenos.

The burritos at Cuco's are also excellent, with the fish burrito naturally topping an interesting list of options. The burritos are served in regular and "grande" size, and the regular is quite large to begin with. (Notice the photo of the fish burrito.)
Cuco's recently began serving breakfast. This author hasn't tried their offerings, but the menu selections look promising, highlighted by the Oaxaquena - egg and potato enchiladas topped with a black bean sauce.

The interior atmosphere at Cuco's is bright and colorful. Various soccer jerseys, mostly of Mexican teams, are also available for sale.

Cuco's Taqueria and Grill is highly recommended for both Columbus residents and for visitors to Ohio's capital. It is definitely one of the top Mexican restaurants in town, with an authentic style unmatched in Central Ohio.
