For the first time, my husband grew two different varieties of cucumbers. He planted one variety of cucumber that grows as a bush, while the other is a variety of cucumber that grows on a vine.
The cucumbers that my husband harvested today were the bush variety. My husband grew the bush variety of cucumbers from vegetable plants. We never grew the bush variety of cucumbers before, but my husband could not resist the special discounted price for the vegetable plants at the local discount department store.
He grew the vine variety of cucumbers from seeds. He really enjoys it when he can grow vegetables in our garden from seeds that he plants, instead of buying the vegetable plants. He did a really nice job growing all of the cucumber plants this year because they are producing tasty cucumbers.
The bush variety of cucumbers takes up less space in our backyard vegetable garden than the vine variety of cucumbers, which is important because our space is limited.
Fresh grown cucumbers are really nice to eat. The cucumbers grown in our backyard vegetable garden taste delicious. Since we grow our entire vegetable garden organically, we can eat the cucumber skin and all. This is a real treat for us. When we buy cucumbers in the store we wash and then peel the skin off of the cucumbers because they are usually full of a waxy coating.
Later that day, after washing the cucumbers, my husband sliced them diagonally into spears. We enjoyed the cucumber spears as an accompaniment to a tuna salad sandwich and a cup of tomato soup for a light dinner. The cucumbers were crispy, juicy, and very tasty!
This is my second article about our backyard vegetable garden. If you would like to read my article about the yellow squash we have growing in our backyard vegetable garden, click here.
Both of us like working in our vegetable garden because it is very enjoyable. Working in our vegetable garden provides us with much happiness and we get rewarded with a variety of delicious vegetables. Growing our own vegetables in our backyard garden is a nice hobby.
