Since I am familiar with search engines like Google, Yahoo!, and Ask I took Cuil for a test drive to see how it compared to the other popular search engines. I used my website gajemaster.com to see how it pulled up in each one of them and the results were amazing.
Google Search Engine
Everyone knows what Google's search engine can do such as pull up information about the page's page rank, show a web site's cache, allows you to customize your search, takes snapshots of web pages and do a lot of other things. Google is the number one search engine used on the internet according to Wikipedia. Many people have even found ways to make their website's page rank jump up using SEO so that their website will have a higher page rank and become more popular by Google's terms. Google's search engine isn't the only thing that has made Google so popular, they also have their own email, tips for ranking higher in their search engine, Google Reader, and a lot more things to make a person's browsing experience much more enjoyable.
Yahoo! Search Engine
Yahoo! is another search engine that is popular. Yahoo! is the second most visited website according to compete.com and it is also the most visited website in the world. Yahoo! has a lot of the same features that Google has such as their free email service and groups that people often discuss things in. Although Yahoo! is a wonderful search engine in my comparison Google still did a much better job when it came to finding out about a website and Google also had much better results than what Yahoo! had.
Ask Search Engine
Ask is actually becoming more popular by the day and many people search the Ask search engine to find answers and not just websites. Ask.com has come a long way since they first took the internet by store. Ask.com was formally known as Ask Jeeves which gave users a way of asking everyday questions and get results. Ask doesn't really compare to search engines like Google and Yahoo! but they are wonderful to ask a question and get the answers to it.
All three of these search engines has one thing in common, they are all the most used search engines in the United States and in most countries.
There is one thing that I couldn't find on Cuil's search engine, I found the about link but when I clicked it it said that the url is incorrect therefore I was unable to really find out much about the Cuil search engine but from my searching using their search engine, I would have to say that it doesn't even compare to Google, Yahoo!, or Ask. I am sure that Cuil might have something up their sleeve just waiting to burst out and that they will have a long journey ahead of them with the other top three competitors.
Who is the mastermind behind Cuil
Cuil has stated many times that it is out to outdo their rivals and to become on of the most used search engines. The mastermind behind Cuil is Anna Patterson who is also a former employee of Google. Anna Patterson plans to outdo her former employer by making Cuil a much better search engine.

Post a CommentGood job, Rosa. Nice comparison article. I wrote one on Cuil myself. I kind of like it in some respects, not so much in others...
Very interesting, I wonder if they will beat out the old faithful search engines!
