According to Joseph Gerteis, a Sociologist from the University of Minnesota there is nothing available to pull people together. There is more to the story than that in the form of lifestyle I will explain later on. Sociologist Robert Putnam from Harvard University calls it "a socio-psychological system overload" where people are suspicious about everyone and everything. Why the suspicion? It stems from a lack of knowledge due to the old traditions of our American Past which explains how natural it is for people to clump together in the melting pot. In fact, children are thought to be the most innocent, open minded beings of purity. After all, they seem to love the big purple dragon called Barney. However, the Society for Research in Child Development discovered that children tend to think like we do. Even your pet will learn to imitate your true attitude as they constantly stare focused on learning about you. The S.F.R.I.C.D Discovered that white children tend to harbor negative intentions toward black children they don't see everyday. Meaning, your segregated neighborhoods, work place, churches, stores, schools, family friends and other things makes people ignorant about the world around them.
Utopia's choose a certain society, but the public is what it is. Then these children grow up to be separate by choice as a cultural tradition to be a separatist. As a result of this, immigrants and minorities sense the coldness keeping to their own kind. The path was set for us to be separate in mostly everything we do to the point of excluding those people you don't understand. Some people reach for the stars and captures one causing a little sweet confetti drops effect into white icing. Others give up or try to make their own way. The problem with preconceived notions about people you are afraid to be friendly to is that it affects ever decision you make. For example, if you think a red headed student will just be stubborn you will probably not want to help that student. In truth , the student is mild and a c student who wants to do better. Unfortunately, the teacher would never know this, because she is wrapped up in a separate world. Now that the damage has been done, how can we solve this? It won't be solved by everyone, but to those who want to save their tax dollars it would be good to try. It has been said that if a minority moves into an area the property value goes down naturally due to the same mind-washing tactics that separates people. That blasted preconceived notion that someone is a problem when it could be the opposite. One should want to stay away from trouble makers, but open doors for certain minorities and immigrants of promise.
People of promise are individuals who are interested in learning, and living a better life. These individuals are not violent, militant, or deviants in any way. To change the world, we have to change ourselves, and get the facts without relying on a false idea. In order to do that neighborhoods will have to become more diverse, television line ups should have a representation of all ethnic groups with their own shows, commercials should broaden their vision of beauty equally including all groups, churches will have to start thinking of God in the real and diversifying the gospel across all nations. If this would have happened in the first place there would be no Ebonics, and people would have goals to get a job instead of living off your hard earned tax money. Moreover, we underestimate the value of cultural awareness in terms of running our system. There are ideas that could have made things better that was overlooked by our ignorance and refusal to seek knowledge from someone who is different. We fear losing all we know, being forgotten, and being overlooked. We tend to reason by closing off many areas fearing that if we let go someone else would do the same thing. This is a nation under God, and there is plenty of room to give more opportunities without giving up your place. Someone once said there is room at the top, and I know we could all survive as the fittest in harmony if we try.
