Art and culture are everywhere, the border being a rich vein of artistic ability. The El Paso Museum of Art, located at 1 Arts Festival Plz in the heart of downtown El Paso, features prominent artists of the Southwest as well as world renowned artists, as well as numerous community activities to encourage art appreciation and support.

A new feature to the El Paso Museum of Art is their "3rd Thursdays" a party sponsored by the museum every third Thursday of the month. The most recent theme was "Aloha Luau" in conjunction with the El Paso Culture Cruise Activities that takes sightseers on a tour around downtown El Paso to local cultural activities and spaces including galleries, museums, parks and historic districts.

The "Aloha Luau" and all 3rd Thursday activities include theme oriented food, drinks, music and dress while offering an opportunity to stroll the various galleries amongst other young cosmopolitans of El Paso. The 3rd Thursdays provide a perfect opportunity to view art, and socialize with other members of the community that appreciate our varied works of art. Transport yourself to a Hawaiian island in the middle of the El Paso desert, with fresh watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple and while enjoying a nice White Zinfandel.

Also provided at the museum every second Sunday of the month is a family workshop. The topics vary and allow parents and children an opportunity to connect through art, which sadly is often overlooked in our schools and society. The El Paso Art Museum is well aware of the power of art and the learning improvements art can make to the young learners.

Encouraging future artists is the El Paso Art Museums studio art classes for such topics as: Acrylic and Oil Painting, Landscape Painting with Watercolor and Hand Building with Clay, all provided at the museum on different days during the week for a nominal fee benefiting the museum itself.

The most recent addition to the museum is the Sister Cities Testing Boundaries: Art and Artists Along the U.S.-Mexico Border, a powerful exhibition that displays the unique capabilities and understanding of a border community that El Paso and Ciudad Juarez know so well. The exhibition includes numerous emerging and established artists from both nations and who work with a variety of mediums including canvas, sculpture and interactive media.

For a dose of culture and art in an area that too often complains of having little, check out the variety of exciting and unique activities provided by the El Paso Museum of Art and their 3rd Thursday activities.

This sounds like a great event. I'd love to go.
