A little background before I tell you about our personal Culver's experience; started by the Culver family in Wisconsin in 1984, Culver's now has 350 restaurants in 17 states through their franchising operation. This restaurant boasts 'we bring the often forgotten, hometown values of quality and customer service to neighborhoods throughout the country'. Service with a friendly smile is a Culver's trademark , as is quality and freshness in their food products offered to the Culver's customers. The signature Culver's butterburger is made with fresh, never frozen, 100 percent U.S. raised beef and made to order so that the burger is always fresh for the customer.
Our first visit to a Culver's restaurant was a pleasant experience overall. It was a Friday night at the height of suppertime, and while Culver's was quite busy, we did not have to wait long before placing our order. The order-taker smiled and was friendly, if a bit rushed-which was understandable given the busyness at the time. Our order was taken, paid for and we were given a number for our food to be brought to us once we were seated. We chose to sit outside, as the weather was wonderfully mild for July. The wait for our meal was not long at all, especially considering how busy Culver's was this Friday night.
My husband ordered Culver's Friday night special, a fish fry basket. It came with fish, fries, coleslaw, and a roll. Tartar sauce and malt vinegar were served as well. His opinion was good, the food tasted freshly cooked-even as it was the 'special of the night'. I noticed the butter pat given for his roll was real butter, that impressed me quite a bit right there. My order was a chicken tenders basket, seemingly all white meat chicken with crispy fries. It was definitely the reputed Culver quality, while being mere finger food, the chicken was a notch above what I have gotten at fast food places before. Our son had the famous Culver's Butterburger and he was not disappointed. The burger was hot and fresh, obviously cooked as he ordered it and presented correctly-as he's quite picky. The crinkle cut fries that accompanied several of our orders were classic, crispy and delicious. Lastly, our daughter ordered Culver's kid's meal. She had a hot dog with french fries and had no complaints.
All of the good mentions we gave our food orders above paled in comparison when we tried Culver's famous Frozen Custard. Oh my. We would definitely be returning to Culver's for the ice cream alone. Buttery, creamy and rich, this vanilla frozen custard was wonderful! My husband and I shared a Caramel Cashew Sundae, which was simply two scoops of frozen custard topped with caramel and cashews. It was divine. The caramel was smooth, the cashews were whole and salted perfectly and the custard itself was simply divine. We've never had a smoother, richer, more buttery frozen custard.
Culver's Frozen Custard and Butterburgers definitely gets a gold star from this family, for a fast food place, the experience was overall quite superb. If there's a Culver's near you, give it a try, it's certainly worth it.
