Creating the cupcakes for a cupcake cake. The first step to being successful creating a cupcake cake is making great cupcakes. Cupcakes that are ideal for a cupcake cake have a nice flat top for easy decorating. Don't overfill your cupcakes and use a tool such as an ice cream scoop to ensure that each cupcake liner gets filled with the same amount of cake batter so you have uniform cupcakes to work with.
Assembling a cupcake cake. To assemble the cupcake cake, just use any sort of template for creating the shape cake you desire. Everything from alligators to butterflies, stars, and more can be created with a simple cupcake design. Just arrange the cupcakes in the shape you want. Cookie cutters make great templates to go off of when creating a cupcake cake because they typically have a simple outline design.
Icing a cupcake cake. There are two different ways you can create a cupcake cake. You can either assemble the cupcakes into the shape you want and ice over all the cupcakes at once, or you can decorate each cupcake individually and then place the cupcakes in the desired shape. Either way works for creating a cupcake cake. Take into consideration what your design looks like and choose carefully which icing application method will be best.
Resources. In addition to this article, there are a number of great resources available for helping you make your own cupcake cake. Wilton, the leader in cake decorating supplies, has a great website (www.wilton.com) full of information including tips on making cupcakes and cupcake cakes. The book Hello Cupcake by Karen Tack is a great resource for making incredible cupcakes and cupcake cakes. Their website, www.hellocupcake.com, is another great resource for ideas and tips.
Cupcake cakes are impressive, practically, and easy enough for anyone to master. With this tips in hand you'll be the hit of the party with your fun and festive cupcake cake.
