Cupid's Chokehold by Gym Class Heroes

The song Cupid's Chokehold was the first song released from Gym Class Heroes. It also features the lead singer of Fall Out Boy, Patrick Stumph. This song reached the top four of various charts in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It was released twice - first on the Papercut Chronicles album in 2004 and then re-released in the 2006 album As Cruel as School Children. There is also a third version that was released in the United Kingdom that was an altered version of As Cruel As School Children. Both versions have their own music video.

The second version contains female backing vocals that are not included in the first version. Of the several versions produced, the most common is a slow tempo and female backed version. The other version, the first version, is a much faster tempo and Patrick Stumph replaces the female vocal backing. The first version of this song was 4:03 in length, while the second version released was shortened by five seconds to 3:58. This song was produced by S*A*M.

Supertramp's hit song "Breakfast in America" is an inspiration for this song, as the famous spoken phrase 'ba ba da da' is a repetitive occurance in this song. Cupid's Chokehold won an ASCAP award for being one of the most played songs from the fourth quarter of the 2006 year to the fourth quarter of the year 2007. This song is considered rap rock, as it is a fast tempo and smooth lyrically. Gym Class Heroes made this song under the label Decaydance and Fueled By Ramen.

This song was played all over the world but fared best in the United States. They made it up to spot number three of the Billboard Hot 100 and the Pop 100. This song also made it up to spot number eighteen on the U.S. Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks. It did make it up to second on the Turkish Singles Chart, third on the United Kingdom Chart, third on the Canadian Singles Chart and third on the Irish Singles Chart. It fare as well in the rest of the charts. It placed sixth on the New Zealand Singles Chart, ninth on the Dutch Top 40, eleventh on the European Hot 100 Singles and fourteenth on the Australian Singles Chart. It was also able to make it up to spot number thirty-five in the Latin America Top 40 and spot sixty-five on the Czech Singles Chart.
