Yet, there are things you can do to help cure your pet's ulcers. One way would be to stop giving them aspirin and find other ways to deal with health problems like arthritis or kidney and liver problems instead of giving them over the counter medications. However, there are ways to help cure your pet's ulcers and continue to give them over the counter medications. First, make sure you pick up coins and other things pets will try to eat off the floor. Keep your pet from eating or nibbling on hard material like wood, which can cause ulcers and stomach irritations. Give your pet rubber toys for playtime and nibbling.
To prevent stomach irritations that can cause ulcers be sure to brush your pet's teeth on a regular basis. This should especially be done for cats because brushing helps cut down on them swallowing lots of hair during grooming times. If giving your pet over the counter medications be sure to check the correct amount of dosage with your vet. A dose for humans can be lethal for pets, especially if given over a long period of time for other health problems. Above all never give cats medications with acetaminophen they lack the enzymes necessary to eliminate it from their system.
If you give aspirin to your pet, be sure to give it to them when they are eating. Make sure you choose a buffered brand of aspirin to prevent upsetting your pet's stomach too much. Finally, to help cure ulcers make sure your pet gets plenty of exercise and play time, a boring pet maybe stressed over being bored. Most ulcers will heal on its' own. However, there are some ulcers that will cause internal bleeding that you need to be aware of. If you notice bleeding in your pet's stools or vomit that looks like it has coffee grounds mixed in it, take your pet to the vet right away. Also, if your pet swallows pennies or batteries take them to the vet, these items are toxic and could cause damage to their stomach linings.
