Curing the Common Cold Without Drugs

Survival is Possible

Many people want to find relief from the common cold either in addition to or completely apart from taking any medication for their symptoms. Both are achievable goals. There are many simple strategies that work for the common cold and for those suffering from sinus infections that will work even if over the counter medications have been started or the doctor has given a prescription. The behavioral ones generally require no additional approvals from your doctor or pharmacist. However, if someone suffers from chronic medical conditions, never trust advice from the Internet. Be safe and always consult first with medical professional prior to changing a routine.

Physical Behavioral Changes

Address the sinus pain of a cold using a variety of behaviors. Use your shower to give your body a steam experience. The hot water drilling on your face will loosen the sinus pressure. Also consider buying one of the varieties of shower steamer brands to put in the shower with you to help open up your breathing passages. A shower will also soothe your muscles which often start to bunch up and ache during a cold. While a bath is more effective for the aches and pains, it does not have the effect on your sinuses that a shower will have so stick with the shower. Use a Vaporizer to continue the effect when after the shower. Some are even available in plug in versions that fit in the electrical outlets. These are easily installed in any room.

When the body aches, the head hurts, and it is challenging to breathe, sleep can be difficult to achieve. However, one can and does need to rest. Even if you can not fall asleep, do force yourself to lie down in a position that encourages sleep. While sleep may seem hopeless, given the chance the body will eventually do what it needs to in order to heal when allowed. Keep providing opportunities for rest and the body will do the rest.

Diet Changes

Eating can be challenging if you do not feel well. Maintain vitamin intake and do insure a proper amount of C is included. Hydration is even more important when a cold strikes than normal. Preventing dehydration is essential and watching what you drink can determine how well this goal is achieved. Caffeine free teas served with honey do provide hydration and a soothing remedy for throats often made raw from coughing. Do watch the drinks that create almost as much dehydration as hydration during this time. Not all drinks are equal and people should be encouraged to make good choices while sick. Broths are good for providing nutrition and hydration for those who are not feeling like eating.

There are a variety of alternative treatments one can explore to add to these simple remedies. Do consult with medical professionals to insure they will not create any problems with your current medical treatments.
