Pumpkin Cures Loose Stools
Whether your four-legged friend is a puppy or a mature dog, feeding him canned pumpkin will help cure his diarrhea. According to VetInfo online, plain canned pumpkin (not pie filling) can be fed alone or mixed with rice to absorb excess moisture in the dog's intestines. Add 2 to 4 tablespoons of canned pumpkin to the dog's daily diet when his stools are loose. The natural pumpkin cure also helps reduce the chances of dehydration.
If the pet won't eat anything due to stomach upset, Holistic Pet Info online recommends a 24-hour liquid diet or fast. During this time offer plenty of fresh, cool water to reduce dehydration. After the initial 24-hours, slowly introduce a bland diet of meat broth, meat (chicken, turkey) rice and unseasoned vegetables.
If the pet's bowel movements are liquid, contain blood or are persistent and uncontrollable, contact a veterinarian immediately. Pumpkin, liquid diets and fasting are only recommended for mild cases of diarrhea.
My dog eats poop!
When a dog eats his own or other animal's feces the pet suffers from a condition known as coprophagia, according The Partnership for Animal Welfare (PAW). The causes for this disturbing behavior varies and includes hunger, eating a nutrient-poor diet or a craving for essential minerals that aren't present in the dog's daily rations.
Pumpkin Deters Dogs from Eating Poop
If the pet gravitates to his own poop, PAW recommends adding 2 to 4 tablespoons of plain, canned pumpkin to the dog's food each day. Dogs like the initial taste of the pumpkin, but once processed through the digestive system, the squash adds a pungent odor to the feces--and deters the dog from coprophagia.

Post a CommentI have a dog with the poop eating issue. EWWW! Thanks for the tips. I'll try the pumpkin.
Good information to know!
My big Boxer has this problem( eating his feces) and I read also that pumpkin puree helps, I did try it for a long time, but I did not see a change, I think I'll look up a dietary change in food for him since he has Addisons disease and takes prednezone daily. Thanks Angela.
