Curious George Movie: Educational Activities and Games for 2 to 5 Year Olds

Rebecca Hayes
Let's face it, kids love movies, but it's been proven that they should watch no more than 2 hours of TV a day. So why not combine their love of a movie and activities that will help them learn and grow? Following are suggestions for the movie Curious George released in 2006. These activities would also work well for preschool classes and party games for this age group.

Watch the movie

Let your kids watch the show while you prepare the activities for the rest of the day or attend to other responsibilities.

Safe Finger Paint

In the movie, George learns and creates with his hands and paint. Discovering through painting is important for your toddler and this non-toxic and safe finger paint is a perfect way to let your toddler explore without worrying about them eating the paint. Mix a few drops of food coloring with some applesauce and stir. Put the different colors in a small cup on the table next to your child. Let them paint on a paper sack that has been cut open. If you have an older child you are most likely safe to use real finger paint. In either case they'll enjoy the time being creative.

Take a Trip

Take a trip to a local zoo or a small petting zoo. Another fun trip idea to go along with this movie is to visit a Children's Museum. Most museums have a section specifically for children. There are also museums all for kids. You can visit this link: http://www.childrensmuseums.org/visit/visit.htm to find out if there is one near you.

Snack Time

What do monkeys like to eat? Bananas, of course! Offer your child a banana with a twist. Slice the banana into pieces and put it in a bowl, add a small amount of vanilla yogurt, chocolate chips and graham cracker pieces.

Let's Pretend

Ask your child if they know what an adventure is. If they don't explain it to them, then ask them what they would do as an adventure. Would they go look for buried treasure, go out on a hike in the jungle, or take a trip in an airplane. Pretend to do the adventure that they suggest.

Bubbles and Balloons

There are few objects that provoke as much wonder as bubbles and balloons. Go outside and blow bubbles. Blow a bubble then show your child that if you blow on the bubble you can get it to move. See who can move a bubble the farthest without popping it. If it isn't nice outside and you aren't able to blow bubbles you can do the same activity with a couple of balloons indoors.
