The recalled dolls were sold with Curious George storybooks and activity books. They were sold at toy and discount department stores nation-wide from December 2005 through August 2007, for about $15. They are 12-inches tall. There are five different kinds of dolls -- birthday, fireman, "sweet dreams," tool time, and tool time with a soft face. Pictures of all five are available on the CPSC news release.
The following SKU numbers are printed on the packaging (listed by type of doll):
Birthday 90253/ 8-83199-90253-5
Fireman 90246/ 8-83199-90246-7
Sweet Dreams 90247/ 8-83199-90247-4
Tool Time 90251/ 8-83199-90251-1
Tool Time (soft face) 90251/ 8-83199-90251-1
No injuries have been reported.
You should take the recalled toys away from children immediately. Contact Marvel Toys to get a refund.
For more information, call Marvel Toys at 800-352-2064 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or see the company's information about the recall online.
The toys were made in China, and this recall is one of many recent recalls of toys made in China that had paint that contained lead.
Other recent recalls of toys due to lead paint, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission site, include children's sunglasses (yellow only) sold at Dollar General stores; Pull-Back Action toy cars also sold at Dollar General; "Robot 2000" collectable tin robots; Dizzy Ducks music boxes; Winnie-the-Pooh spinning tops; Duck Family collectable wind-up toys; Dragster and Funny Car toys; and "Big Red" wagons. For more information about any of these toys, see the CPSC website.
In addition, in a well-publicized incident, Aqua Dots were recalled this week because the coating on the beads contains the "date rape" drug.

Post a CommentQuite frankly, it's makes me wonder if EVERYTHING made in China contains lead and/or other harmful chemicals - I think this may be bigger than just children's toys...
I have a similar AC post "Shop Smarter and Safer During the Upcoming Holiday Season" which is more general. I agree, nothing is safe! I receive emails daily with multiple recalls listed.
I guess my kids will have to play with sticks and rocks.
Thanks for sharing. All of these toy and doll recalls are a bit scary. Mass production without consideration of all the components of the product is proving to be a bad idea.
scary stuff :(
This is a shame. It seems no toys are safe. :-(
Excellent reporting! I saw this on the news station in my city (Houston). I guess the CBS station here (KHOU) did their own investigation and this was one of many products that they discovered had lead poisoning.
