Custard's First Stand

Thomas Cleveland Lane
Between the first and second stop,

On the work-bound train,

I pass a little custard stand.

No time to stop and have a treat,

I tell myself as scenes rush by.

Maybe the weekend, I'll stop and eat,

Whenever, by and by.

The weekend comes and soon it goes,

No visit to the custard stand,

Which, to tell the honest truth,

Never ever was at hand

Among my many thoughts.

Another week, and on I roll,

Past the little custard stand.

It would be nice, I tell myself

To go there on a Saturday;

Enjoy a chocolate cone.

Someday, I'll get on my way

But do not stop the train for now.

We actually had a custard shop called "Custard's Last Stand"--in Lenexa, KS. But it closed, probably because no one got off the train.

Get a mini cooler and take your own custard on the train. Custard is a funny word. So much like mustard.
