Custo Barcelona: Mercedes Benz Spring 2010 Fashion Week

Custo Barcelona is All Colors for Spring 2010

Mike C.
Custo Dalmau is a fashion designer from Spain. He, along with his brother David, founded Custo Barcelona in the 1980s.

During the Mercedes Benz Spring 2010 Fashion Week, Custo Barcelona featured beautiful colors of pink, purples, blues, greens, grays, and yellow. From swimwear to dresses to mens coats, the models outfits were all full of color and playfulness.

Many of the dresses had frillies/tassles on the ends, sides and/or top pieces, every inch of material in mixes of colors and prints. Some skirts were flashy, dresses were sheer with matching sparkly underwear, and the swim wear bikinis expressed the same themes of splashes of color. Some of the men modeled shorts of gray with white swirl designs, and dress coats were varieties of both solids and colors. Accessories were slim, just some of the guys wearing shades, colorful sneakers, and women had colored pumps. I think the simplicity was key that kept eyes on the fabrics.

My favorite female look was a pink halter top that had a darker red strip of feathers around the neck and chest. The body of the top had many diamond shapes cut out. The bottom of the top was a zig-zag pattern cut as well as a few long tassles attached. The skirt bottoms had more of that same look, it was a teal color but with no holes cut out. The whole piece reminded me of crochet for some reason.

My favorite male looks were the colored sport coats paired with striped shirts with long neck cuts. The pants were flashy and reminiscent of what you'd see in a techno club. Some others modeled multi-color jackets that were a little too much like Elton John.

You can still view highlights from Custo Barcelona's collection from the Mercedes Benz Spring 2010 Fashion Week on their Youtube page. It's viewable in HD too!

Many of the Custo Barcelona pieces are fitting for any beach scene. However, the sheer dresses would not fly with most people out in public. Likewise, many of the men's pieces were a little "out there". The multi-color jackets and techno pants would be great for very fashionable, comfortable-in-their-styles men going to the discoteca / club for the night. The flirty colors from this showcase and their coordinating in the fabric prints are surely what we'll be wearing in Spring 2010.

You can buy Custo Barcelona on their website. Custo apparel ranges in the $100s.
