Custom Built Computers For Geeks Only? I Think Not

If you're one of the many people in the world who use computers on a daily basis, but never really learned the more technical side of things, then when someone mentions "custom built" computers, you probably shrug your shoulders at it, thinking they are for the stereotypical basement geek that does nothing but play videogames. The funny thing is, in this day and age, nothing could be further from the truth. A lot of people, and businesses I might add, do not realize what positive aspects having a desktop custom built can have on your investment. After all, your spending money on it, why not get full potential? From saving money, having a faster machine, and even double the lifespan or more!

Normally, when people about building a custom machine, the first thing that comes to mind is "Ohh, well I hear that can be expensive, I don't want to spend $2000 dollars on a computer! Surprising to most, this is not nearly as true as people think. When a machine is custom built for you, your needs, your wants, and your uses are taken into account when you speak with the builder about what you want from your machine. Be it a large hard drive and backup to store all of your pictures or music or email database and be positive you will never go without it, or a beefy processor to run all your games or business applications at once without slowing down, it will be considered when hardware is being picked. The average machine (home or business) doesn't do much, a few emails here, a few text documents there, and maybe a little web surfing, which means that specific machine doesn't have to be the most expensive piece of hardware you can get. An average machine will probably run you 600-800 dollars, which is a very decent price for the value of the data it will hold. Would you really trust the only backup copy of your wedding pictures, or your entire customer database on a 200 dollar Computer? Of corse, the more you want your machine to do, the more it will cost, but as is with all things from houses to cars.

Once they have discovered the price is not all that different from buying a store brand computer, they begin to ask, "Well, what kind of difference in performance Is there." And the answer is simple. As before, a custom built computer is designed with your needs in mind. If you are looking for a machine to be the fastest thing on the planet, you can do that. If you want it to be a good machine that does everything your business requires of it without hassle, it can do that too. If you want something small and cheap just to check your email account, it can do that as well. That's exactly the beauty of a custom built machine, you get what you want and need, no more, no less.

On average, by this point most people are starting to get a grasp of what building a computer can do for them, and they start becoming a bit more curious, asking a few more thought out questions, one of which being "How long will this computer last compared to others" And again, the beauty of custom building shines through. The answer is shocking to a lot of people, and that is "it's up to you" If you are comfortable knowing that in 1-3 years something will most likely physically break in your computer and will have to be replaced, then you are more than able to request lower end parts. If you feel you cannot take that chance and want to make items last, brands can be used that are known for durability, and come with anywhere from three year warranties and up. Some parts are known for lifetime warranties, and who could possibly get mad at spending an extra 20 dollars for that? Most factory machines come with a 1 year basic warranty, and you can pay an extra hundred dollars or more for an extra year, so after that two years is up, your on your own. With a custom built computer, you control what goes into your machine, you control the warranty, and thus, you control how long it will last you.

Custom built computers are no longer a toy just for the geeky at heart. They are being used more commonly as family computers, personal computers, and business computers. They have aspects that a factory machine just does not have. The level of control versus the difference in price is so good you would almost have to be crazy not to consider it in your next computer purchase.

A custom built computer costs nearly the same as a store brand computer once you factor in the additional features, warranty, upgraded parts, etc., but offers even more than the store brand computer would.
