Several websites are now offering custom made ice cream services. The two most popular of these are Ecreamery and Custom Ice Cream Creations.
Ecreamery
At Ecreamery, you start by picking your own base. You can choose a traditional American ice cream base, an Italian gelato base (which contains less milkfat), or extra creamy (which contains more milkfat). Then you get the joy of designing your own custom ice cream flavors and toppings.
You can have up to two flavors and two toppings. The flavor list is huge. Some of the flavors include almond, banana, black cherry, birthday cake, black licorice, walnut, blueberry, raspberry, chocolate liquor, cherry vanilla, cheesecake, chocolate merlot, coconut, chocolate mousse, egg nog, green tea, peach, peanut butter, pistachio, peppermint, root beer, tiramisu, and mango.
The list of creative toppings makes the ice cream creation possibilities endless. In addition to the usual nuts and candies and syrups you'd expect, there is also about every fruit you can imagine, as well as interesting additions like sugar cone pieces, brownies, bubble gum, licorice, cheddar cheese, pretzels, espresso chips, dill weed, grape jelly, marshmallows, milk or dark chocolate covered raisins, parmesan cheese, peppermint stick pieces, pop rocks candy, and thyme.
The final step in the process involves naming your creation. You can name it whatever you want- from "Dad's Dessert" to "Cherry Pretzelicious."
Custom ice cream does come at a price. You can get 4 pints of your creation for about $49.95 or 4 quarts of your creation for $79.95, which includes one flavor. Additional flavor, as well as toppings and shipping, are extra. Standard shipping methods are used, usually FedEx 2-day. It comes in a reusable Styrofoam cooler, packed with dry ice to keep your creation frozen.

Custom Ice Cream Creations
The steps at the Custom Ice Cream Creations website are similar, but just a little bit simpler. (It is also cheaper). First, you start off with just choosing between a white or chocolate base. Then you add one of their custom flavors; they have everything from watermelon to rum. They also allow you to include up to three toppings in your creation for no additional price. The toppings include all of the fruits, nuts, and many candies, as well as things like graham crackers and ginger. The cost is $45 for three half-gallon containers. Shipping is extra.
Although the list of flavors and toppings at Custom Ice Cream Creations is not quite as extensive as the list online at ecreamery, the family-owned company is always willing to attempt new things. If you have an idea for something that is not on their website, you can always contact them about the possibility of trying your concept. In the past they have even made turkey and gravy ice cream.
Considering that there are four quarts in a gallon, this means that the price is significantly cheaper than ecreamery. At ecreamery you will pay $79.95 for one gallon, without toppings. Custom Ice Cream Creations gives you a gallon and a half for $45.00, which includes up to three toppings.
