Custom Promotional Pens: Five Places to Leave Them to Advertise

Melanie L. Marten
Using a custom promotional pen to market your business is a classic way to build brand recognition and attract new customers or clients. The top two methods of using them is sending them out as free gifts to customers or interested people, or to leave them in various locations waiting for them to be picked up. Leaving custom promotional pens in various places works. Here are the top five places to leave these marketing tools in your neighborhood.

The Bank

Banks often have tables or counters where people stop to fill out deposit and withdrawl slips before heading to the teller. These are great places to leave your custom promotional pen. While some banks provide pens on chains to their customers, some people are left without a writing implement. Your business pen can fill a need and spread the word about your business. Chances are, a person who uses your pen to fill out their forms will end up taking the pen with them. This will increase the possibility that they will be viewing your business information for a longer period of time.

The Library

Library circulation desks may have a pot of pens for patrons to use. Also, pens and slips of paper are often kept at the card catalog or computer catalog so that patrons can write down books of interest. Leaving your custom promotional pen in this place can increase exposure for your business. Many libraries frown on promotion or solicitation on the premises. Choosing this as a place to leave your pen must be handled with care. Never leave your custom promotional pen in the library book stacks or reading areas.

The Supermarket

Leaving your business pen at the supermarket can be trickier in this time of automated card scanners. However, people still need to sign credit card slips and, more rarely, checks. If you do leave your custom promotional pen at the supermarket or grocery store, someone will pick it up and use it. There is the possibility that the check out clerk will hand out the pen with your business information to hundreds of customers per day.

Places of Business

Other places of business such as delis, convenience stores, hair stylists, and auto repair shops are also great places to leave your custom promotional pen. Anywhere people have to sit and wait is a good idea. You can leave your pen at the desk where people sign for payment, or in waiting areas.

Doctor's Offices

Waiting rooms for doctor's and dentist's offices are another good place to leave your custom promotional pen. Leaving behind a crossword puzzle or Sudoku book with it might be a good idea. Not only will this urge people to pick up the pen, people will appreciate something to do while waiting for their appointment.

While leaving your custom promotional pen at these locations, it is important to understand that you should not sprinkle your pens liberally throughout the community. Pretending to forget too many pens will have your business labelled too commercial or worse, a litterbug. When using custom promotional pens to advertise your business, only leave them in places where they will not be a problem.
