Every time I go into a store, I dread going to the checkout. I never know what I'm going to encounter. Honestly, I use my conversation on the phone as a reason to avoid conversation with the cashier. The way cashiers act toward the customers is just atrocious at times. While what I'm buying is being rung up, the cashier often tries to sell me something else. A store credit card, an extended warranty, another shirt because they're buy one get one half off, etc.
If they aren't trying to sell me something else then usually they will try to make conversation. And this always turns into them complaining about their job. I haven't yet reported this to a manager, but I'm getting really tired of it.
Cashiers often complain to me about having to stand for what seems forever. It doesn't impress me when a store makes their employees stand for eight hours a day with the exception of their lunch break. But complaining to me is useless because there is nothing I can do about it. I don't appreciate being made to feel badly for something that I can't control.
Another popular complain from the cashiers is about the temperature in the store. I realize if you're working in a hot store that it must be hard on you. But did you ever stop to realize that it's also hard on the customers to shop in a hot store?
The third most popular complaint is about how many hours are left on the job. Most customers simply don't want to hear the cashiers complain. And if management was aware that this was going on they would probably fire you. After all, someone who is counting down the hours obviously doesn't like their job. And if that's the case, then your job performance may be affected as well.
I once heard it said that every woman you meet in the bathroom isn't your new best friend. The same thing applies to every customer who comes through your checkout line. It isn't my fault that you have a bad job. Try going back to school and furthering your education to get a better job if you're so unhappy. But leave the customers alone, it isn't our fault.

Post a Commentif i could count the number of times that Customers were rude, and complaining to cashiers. picking their nose, coughing in the cashiers face, yelling at the cashier for something thats totally out of their hands. snatching the receipt out of their hand, throwing the money at them.
Lying to management about the cashier, when all she was doing was following store policy.
Try standing on the other side of the counter and " then" tell me the cashier doesnt have a right to complain.
It is inappropriate for en employee to complain about his or her workplace while 'on the clock'. I have worked as a cashier and will not bring up the subject unless it has been brought up by the customer. Conversing on the telephone while interacting with a cashier or clerk is very impolite. Civility demands that we are courteous and patient with those who must be courteous and patient with us.
the cashier is just as peeved having to ask every customer if they want a points card, informing them they can get a better deal on soemthing, paper of plastic. and if we dont ask we get a warning from the boss and it goes on our record,
i dont understand how a person can get so mad about a cashier not being chipper, its not my job to make your day better and make you feel good about yourself and hear about your family problems or work problems or health! just pay for your stuff and go home if your in a bad mood!
Cashiers shouldn't complain to customers about their job. Nor should customers yell at cashiers if something isn't rung up right. It's not the cashiers fault if something didn't scan correctly. I am so glad I got out of cashiering.
I do shop online. But I prefer to only buy online what I can't find at the store rather than throw money away on shipping. And if for some reason you don't like it then you also have to pay return shipping. The money saved on tax isn't always worth buying online.
If you really don't like dealing with cashiers you could try shopping online! Then you don't have to deal with anyone, unless you have a problem. Nice article anyways.
