Cut 200 Calories a Day

Is There a Magic Way to Cut Calories?

T.C. Hana
Cutting calories isn't easy work for anyone, especially if they are focused on it for the purpose of losing weight. Cutting calories is not as challenging for someone who is doing it to maintain their weight, because they already did what was necessary to lose weight and so it's no longer as much of a chore. So, how can you cut calories and not feel stressed about it? Or, furthermore how do you cut calories on a regular basis? Is there any magic pill out there to help you cut calories or are you just going to have to spend more time in the grocery aisles reading labels?

I can assure you, there is no magic pill to cut calories, but I do have a few suggestions that can get you on a pathway to regular calorie cuts. It's all about moderation and doing your cuts in stages. The first step to counting calories is being a label reader. The trips to the grocery store may not be fun or interesting, but if you want to cut your calorie count this is the best place to start. Once you start noticing how many calories are in that loaf of bread, you are less likely to pick it up. You might opt for something that has a lesser calorie count even if it means going from white to wheat. Low carb doesn't always mean low calorie. If you drink beer, check out the carb count and the calorie count. Then, look at a Miller Lite. If you see a dramatic difference tell me. The calories are what count, so if you are going to have a beer get one that tastes good.

I can remember when I was in high school, and there was a low-fat craze going around. Practically any name brand came out with "low-fat" versions of cookies, cakes, dips, sour creams etc. In addition to the fact that they taste horrible, when I was reading labels on the Snackwell cookies, they had just as many calories as the Chips Ahoy and other varieties. The facts are simple; if you can't trim the calories on the food it may be something that should be avoided altogether. Having such foods like cookies and other sugar filled treats is bad for anyone. These treats always tend to be very high in calories, so eliminating them altogether will trim your calories per day if it's something you eat on a regular basis.

The one simple thing most Americans can trim from their diet to cut calories is soda. One can of Coke or Sprite each has 140 calories. For those who drink one soda a day just at lunch, you could be cutting 140 calories from your diet right off the bat if you just opted for one glass of water. Adding water to your diet is best for anyone, so this is one sure way to start trimming those excess calories. My best suggestion for those who are trying to cut down on soda, start by going one day without it and work your way up. Or, just have soda on weekends. It's all about balance.
