Cut Class, Not Frogs. End Dissection in Schools
How Kids Are Using Facebook to Fight Back Dissections in School
According to stories told by these people in middle school, they had to take class dissection with frogs. The kids were "failed" if they refused to participate in the dissection.
PETA2 believes dissection should not be done to frogs or any other animal. They claim it may go against a child's belief, and the child should not be failed for believing as such. They also say it goes along the lines of animal abuse.
Dissection frogs are sometimes raised on farms for the purpose of dissection. However, occasionally they are raised in laboratories and can be mistreated. The raising of these frogs may be considered inhumane.
Children who wish to go into medical or biology school should be able to dissect animals to help further their knowledge on the subject, according to a few "facebookers". However, they disagree with dissecting in middle school or lower class biology and science classes and getting failed for not wanting to participate.
Another option for schools if they have the funding would be to go online. Some websites have pages where you can dissect the animal online, without the "hands on" experience if children don't want to dissect "real" animals.
As of June 28, 2010, the facebook page "Cut class, not frogs. End dissection in schools" had 18 total members. A few members posted their views on dissection in school. The page has one link to a YouTube video with "Steve-O" from MTV's "Jackass".
If you support PETA, or want to learn more about what is being done to stop dissections, visit the facebook page and join. If you have other views on PETA, or disagree with stopping class dissections, visit the page to learn more about the current ideas and support, and post your thoughts.
