Cut Your Travel Budget by Staying in Hostels

A great way to save money when traveling is by staying in hostels. Hostels have several people to a room and charge a fraction of what hotels charge. The setup is similar to a dorm room. Besides saving money on lodging many hostels have a common kitchen area. This allows you to prepare your own food and save on meals as well. One additional benefit is the ability to meet various people from around the world. There is usually a common room where you can hang out and chat with other people. If you are worried about the security of sharing your room with strangers most hostels have lockers where you can lock up any valuables you have. It is common to have people from several different countries staying in a hostel.

An example is my recent trip to Cancun. My four night stay in Cancun came to a total of $37.41. I was able to spend so little by staying in a hostel. My lodging also included a free continental breakfast which saved me significant money on dining costs. A hostel is a great way for a solo traveler to save on lodging expenses. I couldn't have stayed even one night in a hotel for the price I paid for four nights in the hostel. It is also a great way to meet people from other countries and cultures.

The hostel I stayed at on this trip was the Soberanis Hostal and is located in downtown Cancun. It is a little different than most hostels because it is primarily a hotel with a few rooms set up hostel style. My room featured an ensuite bathroom rather than having a common bathroom down the hall. It is very convenient to have a bathroom in your room. Most hostels do not offer this option and if they do they charge extra for it. It does not have kitchen facilities that you can use to prepare your own meals like many hostels but I did not consider that a big drawback since they included a free continental breakfast. They offered cereal, juice, coffee, toast, and pastries making it easy to have a filling and satisfying breakfast. It was located downtown but it was only a ten minute, 65 cent ride to the beach. If you are thinking about going to Cancun and willing to stay in a hostel I would recommend this one. Whenever I go to Cancun again I plan to stay at the same hostel. If you're going on a trip I recommend considering a hostel as a lodging option.

This has become a big plus for those who don't want the traditional hotel hassel. Write some more articles on this, I think you could become the travel agent for couch bouncers.
