Making your own 4th of July party invitations doesn't have to be hard, and it definitely doesn't require that you be a professional card designer. With the supplies and instructions listed below you can make your very own 4th of July party invitations that are sure to impress all your guests.

Supplies you will need to make your own 4th of July party invitations:
(You should be able to find all of these supplies at your local craft store.)

Star hole punch (the size of the resulting punch shape should be about the size of your finger tip)
Double sided tape (make sure it comes with paper backing on at least one side)
White card stock (size of a 1/2 sheet of paper)
Red and blue scraps of paper (you can usually buy packs of scrap card stock at craft stores that have a variety of colors)
Letter stickers (any color that you like that goes with red, white, and blue just remember to get enough for all your invitations)
Red, blue, or black fine tip marker that won't bleed
Any cute 4th of July or party themed stickers that you might want to use to jazz up the inside of your card, or the envelope

Steps to making your own 4th of July party invitations:

After you have gathered your supplies you will want to pull out a piece of white card stock for every person or household that you plan on inviting to your 4th of July party, it is easiest to make a bulk of invitations in an assembly line fashion, rather than completing one fully before moving on to the next.

Once you have a piece of card stock pulled out for every guest you can begin to fold the card stock in half. Take your time when folding the pieces in half, you want them to be folded evenly and not crooked, but remember, they don't have to absolutely perfect. To make the crease sharp on your invitations you can use the dull side of a butter knife run across the fold.

Once all your invitations have been folded in half it is time to give them their 4th of July flair. Take your double sided tape and leave one side protected with the paper backing, placing the sticky side close to the edge of a scrap of red card stock and another piece of double sided tape close to the edge of a blue piece of scrap card stock. This is so that when you punch out your little stars you can simply peal off the paper backing on the tape and stick the stars to the invitations, rather than having to try and glue the little pieces of paper (a technique that I have come to truly appreciate after gluing little pieces of paper).

Now that your applied the double sided tape to the scraps of red and blue card stock you can punch your little stars. To make sure that you are punching the part of the paper with the double sided tape you can face the hole punch so that you can see the double sided tape through the star-shaped hole. You can punch as many or as few stars of each color as you wish.

Now that your stars have been punched, you can peel the paper backing off of the double sided tape on the little stars and stick them on the front of your card however you like. You might place them in the corners, you might want to line one edge of the invitations with them, or perhaps you just want to randomly scatter them on the front of the invitations. One thing to remember however, is that you need to have room for words on the front of your 4th of July party invitations, laying out the stars before sticking them on is a good way to ensure that you are happy with the final outcome.

Once you are happy with the layout of your stars you can use the letter stickers to write "You're invited to a 4th of July celebration!" or anything other invitation-like saying you would like on the front of all the invitations. Don't worry about them being perfectly straight if you aren't good at working in straight lines, you can make them look cute angled randomly, which gives you plenty of room for error. If you have to have them straight then simply lay a ruler across the front of the card and place the bottom edge of each letter along the top of the ruler, just make sure that you use a heavy ruler or weigh the ruler down so it doesn't move on you. Using tweezers while trying to place the letter stickers can make the task much easier.

Now that you have decorated the front of your 4th of July party invitations, you can move on to the inside of the invitations. I think that writing a note to each guest that includes all the details of the party is a great idea for the inside of your invitations because it makes them more personal. Of course, this can take some time, so if you don't have the time you can purchase a stamp at your local craft store that has the typical inside of store bought invitations on it, and you can use a marker to color the stamp rather than a stamp pad for a cleaner result (none of those ink corners that you often get from "rocking" the stamp).

Now, if you purchased stickers you can go ahead and embellish the inside of your 4th of July party invitations, just remember not to go overboard, usually 1 to 3 stickers per 4th of July party invitations will do.

There you have it! Adorable and painless 4th of July party invitations that you can make yourself and brag to all your friends about. Happy 4th of July!
