Peachy Keen Kids opened up last March on Main Street in Ramsey, N.J. Tucked down a side street, Church Street, before the railroad tracks you have to know what you're looking for to find it but it's certainly worth the little bit of extra effort you need to make. Parking is a bit limited, if you can, grab any spot you see on the Main street and walk it. The entire town is only a few blocks long and it's full of wonderful stores. You're also half a block away from Starbucks it you get winded and need a pick me up. You could also park in the rather large Starbuck's parking area and walk back to Peachy Keen. The store is tiny and packed so if you can avoid bringing a stroller in if possible, if not , like the day I was there, we all just walked around it. Obviously it's not wheelchair condusive. I was there early when the shsop opened and it was already busy with customers going in and out.

Peachy Keen Kids is owned and run by Susan Keane. Susan worked for years for Verizon in White Plains. Susan is an artist and loves to paint and has put her talent to good use here in her shop. A lot of the hand painted items are her work. She also has a bevy of artisans and craft people painting and knitting for her. She's lovely to work with and will give you as much attention as you need while shopping.

The shop is absolutely dreamy. It's like a little wonderland full of the most creative, imaginative, charming items you will ever see. The walls are hand painted and have a charming mural on them. The shelves are full of personalized blankets, hand knit hats that are knit into little owls, lambs, teddy bears or frogs. These are in a bookcase in the rear of the store. There are hand painted piggy banks, tea sets, T shirts and onesies . Almost anything can be custom personalized. While I was there someone was ordering a rocker as a gift with the child's name on it. Or, you can just pick up one of the T shirts and onesies with cute sayings on them. Some are embellished with rhinestones but there are t's for both boys and girls. There are frames and cups and all sorts of small gifts as well as the larger items.

If you're decorating a child's room look at the vintage look clocks available. Two particularly cute tiny ones for a newborn's room are brass ovals with tiny storks on the face. There are larger vintage looking clocks that look like antiques. One clock has a New York Yankees theme that can be matched up with a New York Yankees lamp. Another cute lamp has beaded edges and is Ballerina themed with lots of rusching and a Ballerina base. Peachy Keen will arrangae for murals to bu custom painted in your child's room.

One really cute shower gift for a boy or girl is a baby bouquet made out of onesies, bibs, socks, t shirts and a hat. The clothing is all coiled to look like individual roses and other flowers made of fake flowers are tucked in among the clothing flowers creating a bouquet. This is all in a nice box with a clear front and comes in appropriate colors for either sex. It's so pretty all you need to do is add a bow.

There was a lovely hand painted crib and changing table when I was there. The furniture is heirloom quality. For an older girl there was a beautiful and painted vanity. You can find hand painted tea tables with matching chairs, book cases, changing tables or toy chests all beatifully painted. They are literally works of art. There are cute , whimsical rugs, baby banners, growth charts for the walls. You can find memory boards, and baby chandeliers. The chandeliers are so charming you could use them well after the child is grown. Other wall art includes a hand print or foot print framed and hanging from dotted ribbon to match the frame. There were displays of oil paintings with themes like Water fairy, Ballerina Fairy or Butterfly Fairy. These are embellished with crystals on the bottom edge. The quality and workmanship in the items sold here is top notch and very unique.

If you're looking for a game or toy she carries these as well. I saw a funny Zola boa , among the stuffed animals, and there are great travel games for older children or the older sibling. They carry the B'Posh Animal Totes, a polar tech animal with matching tote bags in washable material.

Don't miss this whimsical little store, it's one of the most charming stores in town and certainly worth a look see. You can order birth announcements and birth annoucement banners and sign up for their registry while you're there. Take your time there is so much to look at. You can be sure if you're looking for that really special something you'll find it here. They ar open Tuesday through Saturday 1-5:30 and Thurday evening by appointment.
