Cutler and the Bears Beat Mcdaniel's Broncos

Jay Cutler was booed loudly throughout his 1st half performance. Early on, the boos seemed to get to the entire Bears offense, causing problems getting the plays in from the sideline. It didn't help matters that Broncos RE Elvis Dumervil destroyed Bears starting LT Orlando Pace pretty much all night.

The Broncos were able to apply pressure to Cutler, and seemed to keep the Bears offense out of Sync with a steady diet of blitz packages.

Kyle Orton wasn't able to get much going early on either. With the exception of a few nice catches by Bronco WR Eddie Royal, Orton wasn't very impressive, though he finished the game a misleading 12 for 16 with 96 yards, before leaving the game late in the 2nd Quarter with a cut on his throwing hand.

The game shifted in the Bears direction midway through the second quarter after Devin Hester returned a punt for 54 yards. This set up the Bears first touchdown on a 1 yd TD run by Matt Forte.

The Bears had terrible field position much of the first half. That didn't stop Cutler from driving the Bears from their own 2 all the way down the field for a touchdown before the half ended. Cutler seemed to get in rhythm, connecting on multiple third down attempts.

During the 98 yard drive, tempers flared as Cutler drew a penalty on Dumervil for a late hit. Cutler kept his cool, while executing the two minute drill to perfection. The Bears went into the half with a 17-3 lead, and never looked back. Neither Cutler or Forte played in the 2nd half.

For the second week in a row the Bears defense showed an edge not seen since their Super Bowl run in 2006. However, there are some glaring weaknesses that need to be shored up in the secondary, particularly at cornerback. Injuries have certainly hampered the Bears secondary, as they approach the Season opener against Green Bay.

The main plot going into the game was the Josh Mcdaniels, Jay Cutler feud. The fact that neither searched out the other to shake hands after the game, is indicative of their mutual dislike for one another. One thing is for sure, Cutler, Mcdaniels, and Orton will forever be linked together. For now, the Bears and Cutler seem to have won the first round, as Mcdaniels and Orton continue to struggle to find some sort of consistency.

At the moment, Mcdaniels seems to have pinned himself in a corner by trading a franchise quarterback for a career backup and a few draft picks. Time will tell how this trade works out for both sides. For now, advantage Chicago Bears.
