Cutting expenses is a very difficult task. With cell phones, internet, and TV alone, those bills can often cross over $200 a month minimum for many families. We are continuing to looks for ways to tighten our belts and become more financially stable with the unemployment rate continuing its unstable level.

When I began makes financial changes to cut back on "fluff" items I considered what bills I was paying in which I used the most frequent. For me, internet was something I could not do without. My cell phone was the same, and if anything, I needed to increase my minute usage. But when it came to TV, I found I was rarely home to watch it. A great alternative to my $70 TV bill was to continue my Netflix monthly fee and watch the movies instead. It took one phone call to my TV supplier to suspend my service for 6 months.

Shop around for electricity, if that option is available in your state. Even saving a few cents per kilowatt of usage can make a big different in your electricity bill. Make a few calls and find out your options. Many may require a year contract, but try to get it on a monthly or 6 month basis incase the rates goes up. In relation to this, unplug your items when they are not in use, and keep the lights off. Candles make great mood lighting!

Many times we spend a lot of money on fresh food, and some of it goes to waste. Considering buying in bulk, and frozen. Most vegetables are frozen directly after they are picked, and often contain more vitamins and minerals than our "fresh" veggies. If there are items that you use frequently, consider investing in a $50 bulk-item store card where you can purchase those items at a cheaper price in bulk.

Instead of going out more often, make an effort to make more special meals. Freezing meals ahead will help you to thaw out dinner in a timely manner. Once or twice a week, take the time to make a special dinner that feels like you're "going out". It will not only save you money, but be healthier in many cases.

Gas cards-many grocers now offer discounts on gas if you shop at their stores. Collect those points and pay cheaper gas. It's a simple and efficient way to cut your gasoline usage. It may be an old wives tail, but I have heard often that purchasing your gas in the morning when things are colder, allows you to get more gas for your buck.

With your credit cards, call the companies, and see if they are able to lower your interest rate for at least a few months. Many credit card companies are willing to lower rates for a limited time period to allow you to pay greater amounts on your credit card bills.

There are many options to cutting expenses in small ways. Look over you budget, and your bills, and make some calls. Customer service, while it has gown downhill over the years, is there to help you. Call around and find out your options.
