CW has ordered 8 episodes of the competition, The Search For The Next Pussycat Doll, where the successful sextet will add on a seventh doll. The network's president of entertainment, Dawn Ostroff, said the game show will be more than contestants completing tasks; it will also be about girl power. "At its core, this show goes beyond just finding a new Pussycat Doll; it's about female empowerment, self-discovery and personal transformation," said Ostroff.
Charlie's Angels director McG, America's Next Top Model producer Ken Mok and CEO of Interscope Records Jimmy Iovine are all working behind the scenes of The Search For The Next Pussycat Doll for the CW network. CW officially launches September 20th as the hybrid of WB & UPN network. The show will air during the 2006-2007 season.
Each episode will be an hour in length, and is to be based around the Pussycat Dolls' nationwide search for another member who can sing and dance. Like ANTM, the contestants will vie for the prize by completing competitions while living with each other. Casting sessions will be supervised by creator of the Pussycat Dolls, Robin Antin.
Antin, whose brother is hairdresser-turned-reality-star Jonathan Antin of Bravo's Blow Out, will put the finalists through a series of tough competitions in order to separate the sexy less talented girls, from the sexy more talented ones. Robin Antin created the group 10 years ago as a burlesque act, getting notoriety from famous ladies, like Christina Aguilera, Christina Applegate and Carmen Electra joining in as honorary dolls.
As it stands now, current members of the Pussycat Dolls include Ashley Roberts, Melody Thornton, Kimberly Wyatt, Nicole Scherzinger, Carmit Bachar and Jessica Sutta. The Dolls' debut album, PCD, has sold 4.7 million copies internationally since its September release.
