CWFI Devotional Bible Guide: Aaron

Lesson Three: I AM that I AM Says Exodus 4:19-23

Dr. Phillip Clark
A. Exodus 4:19-23 And the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Egypt for all the men that sought you are dead."

B. Moses took Zipporah his wife and his son's and returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses returned to Egypt with his staff in his hand.

C. And the LORD said to Moses, "When you return to Egypt, perform miracles before Pharaoh that I permit you to do. But I will stiffen his heart, so that he will not let the people go." (Note: The LORD wanted Moses to perform miracles before Pharaoh, so he and the people of Egypt could see that God is God of all gods. For Pharaoh believed in many gods and even believing he himself would depart to the underworld and be a god.)

D. And you shall say to Pharaoh, "The LORD said, Israel is my son, yes, Israel is my firstborn son. (Note: If Israel is God's firstborn son, then God honors his firstborn with an inheritance. That inheritance includes wealth and land. God promised Israel their own land. Jesus is God's Only Begotten Son. And Israel are the Hebrew people. The Hebrew people are God's heritage.

E. Verse 23 Say to Pharaoh: The LORD says, " Let my son go, that he may serve me: (Note: The reasons why Pharaoh should obey the LORD are #1. The Hebrew people are the LORD's people. #2. The Hebrew people are God's heritage. #3. The Hebrew people need their own land. #4. The Hebrew people need to serve only one Master and only one God.)

F. "If you refuse to let him go, look-out, I will slay your son, including your firstborn." (Note: Pharaoh was warned about the death of his firstborn for refusing to liberate the Hebrew people. The LORD can stiffen a heart if a person is already hardheaded and stubborn. That stiffening is easily done.)
