CWFI Devotional Bible Guide: Aaron the Commissioned

Aaron and Moses: Commissioned Lesson Two

Dr. Phillip Clark
Exodus 4:13-18

A. Moses makes a request from God. Moses suggest to God that He should select someone else to speak to Pharaoh as long as it's not him.

B. The LORD became angry with Moses. (Note: Moses was wasting time, being inconsiderate, and selfish.) God said, "Your brother Aaron will be your spokesman. In matter of fact Aaron is already on his way." (Note: God had a remedy for Moses excuses. God was expecting those excuses from Moses. But God had a ram in the bush. God had a substitute for Moses mouth, Aaron's mouth. So Aaron was selected as a mouth piece for Moses. God will keep his promises to deliver Israel out of bondage no matter who he uses.)

The Commission

C. God says, "You tell Aaron what to say. I will tell each of you what to say and teach you what to do. For Aaron will be your mouthpiece. Take your staff and use it for performing miracles."

D. Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said, "Let me return to my people in Egypt. For I want to see if they are still alive?" (Note: Moses knew that the Israelites were alive, for he cannot deliver dead people. But it's a good excuse to give your father-in-law. Seeing that Moses took care of his father-in-law's flock of sheep. Moses even married one of his daughters. Moses had a lot of responsibility to Jethro. But God's plan out weighs Moses' current circumstance.) (Note: As a selected Missionary and commissioned to the harvest field of souls, I want you to take in consideration that most organizations today select debt-free volunteers, unless they provide a grant that pays your debt, or a salary. Most voluntarism is based on no steady income or promise of a steady income. It's difficult, but not impossible to choose to work for the LORD. However to leave a family, mortgage, car payments, medical bills, education debt for a commission of no salary is not practical. You must free yourself or be delivered from your own personal financial obligations before entering a non-salaried mission field responsibility. Unless the Foundation, Church, or Organization sending you to the mission fields pays for your debt, you should not run from your debt. YOUR OBLIGATIONS MUST BE SETTLED. In the United States, running from paying child support will land you in the county jail.)

E. (Note: Jethro, Moses' father-in-law freed Moses from his obligations. For Jethro said, "Go in peace." Jethro will visit Moses later as an honored guest within the forty year deliverance.)
