CWFI Devotional Bible Guide: Aaron Lesson 6

The Adventures: The Miracle from Staff to Serpent

Dr. Phillip Clark
Exodus 7:8-13 The Adventures: The Miracles From Staff to Serpent

A. The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, "Moses, when the king requests you to do a miracle, have Aaron to throw down his staff before the king, and it will become a snake." (Note: You see one of the gifts of God that he gives to His people that obey Him, it the ability to hear Gods voice and He keeps His people informed about an scheduled miracle without surprise.) (Note: A snake in relation to humans means: a treacherous person. Snakes were created by God BEFORE He created man. The offspring are produced by egg laying parents. They are skillful hunters, and they live in the den of rocks and walls. Being called a snake could mean that a person is "wise as a serpent," or intoxicated in relation to a poisonous venomous snake bite drunkenness reaction. When a rod is turned into a snake is a miracle not an hallucination. When you're sober and see a rod turn into a snake it's a miracle. Aaron performed his first recorded miracle. Also to be serpentine, is to be crafty.)

B. Moses and Aaron stood before the king as the LORD instructed. Aaron threw down his staff and it became a snake before the king and his officers.

C. Verse 11-13 Then the king called in his sorcerers and magic practitioners and they were able to conjure the same-thing. They threw down their rods on the ground and their rods became snakes. But Aaron's rod began to eat theirs. Still yet the king refused to obey Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD said would happen.

D. (Note: Snake: Hebrew word Na-hash, Greek: herpetan, ophis the hisser. The Egyptians believed in snake wisdom and it's power. Its snake form represents the god Typhon, the author of all physical and all morality. The snake was looked on by Egyptians as an emblem of eternity.)

E. (Note: The rod is the sign of authority. The Nile River would overflow at its season time and the thought of a Pharaoh knowing the rise and fall of the Nile River is what made him worshiped as a god. The Nile River was a source of Egyptian wealth. The river turning into blood was cutting off the financial prosperity god. Blood represents the sacredness of life.)
