A. The LORD commanded Moses, "I want you to go to Pharaoh and say, 'The LORD says: Let my people go so they may worship me. Verse 2 If you prevent them, I will punish Egypt with frogs. Verse 3 The frogs will fill the Nile River. They will come into your palace, into your bedchamber, on your bed, into your officers houses, and unto your people. They will come into your ovens, and oven pans. Verse 4 The frogs will leap on you, and on your officers.' "
B. Verse 5 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, "Have Aaron lift his rod over the rivers, canals, and ponds. Make the frogs come out of the water and onto the land of Egypt."
C. Verse 6 Aaron lifted his hand over all of the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came out of the water and covered the land of Egypt. Verse 7 Pharaoh's magicians duplicated the same curse and there were even more frogs in the land of Egypt.
D. Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and said, "Pray to the LORD to remove the frogs from me and from my people. I will release your people to offer sacrifices to the LORD." (Note: Pharaoh's first promise to Moses and Aaron. Pharaoh never sought his magicians and their tricks for healing from the frogs.)
E. (Note: The Hebrew word for frog is Zephardea: the grass or marsh leaper. The frogs were considered edible frogs. Frogs are delicacies in some countries. Frog legs dipped or fried in garlic butter, however in Egypt they may not have had desires to eat the frog. For frogs were considered as the creator Pthah a god. Consider how loud the croaking frogs must have sounded. Pharaoh's magicians assisted in the growth of the population of frogs and probably was excited that they copycatted Moses and Aaron's miracle.
F. Verse 9 Moses said to Pharaoh, "Set the time, I should pray for the removal of the frogs and that they should only abide in the Nile." Verse 10 Pharaoh answered, "Tomorrow." (Note: There is a song named, "One more night with the frogs.") (Note: Moses and Aaron had position respect in order to speak and look at Pharaoh face to face. It was forbidden by Egyptian protocol to look on the Pharaoh without the proper respect. God allowed access for Moses to speak the introduction of JE-HO'VAH to Pharaoh.)
G. Verse 10-15 The frogs will leave, tomorrow, and only abide in the Nile. Moses spoke to the LORD, and he listened to Moses. The frogs died. The Egyptians piled them up and the country stank. When Pharaoh noticed they were free of the frogs, Pharaoh became stubborn didn't listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.
(Note: Consider this to be Pharaoh's first broken treaty with the Hebrews, for he broke his promise.
