CWFI Devotional Bible Guide: Aaron Lesson Fourteen the Locusts

The Adventures of Moses and Aaron: The Miracle of the Locusts

Dr. Phillip Clark
Exodus 10:1-20

A. The LORD spoke to Moses, "Present yourself to the king of Egypt. I have made him stubborn, so I can perform my powerful miracles. This is also done so you can tell generation after generations about how I disciplined the Egyptians. Tell them the miracles so that all of you will know I am the LORD."

B. Verse 3 Moses and Aaron went to the king and said, "This is what the God of the Hebrews says, 'How long will you refuse to repent for what you have done? Let my people go to worship me. Verse 4 If you remain stubborn, tomorrow I will send locusts into your country. Verse 5 They will swarm the land so that no one will be able to see the ground. They will devour anything that remained from the hailstorm and the leaves from every tree thats growing in the field.' "

C. Verse 6 The locusts will fill your palaces, all your officers houses and as well as the Egyptians. There will be more locusts in the land of Egypt than there ever have been Egypt, even before Egypt was ever inhabited. "Then Moses and Aaron walked out of the presence of Pharaoh.

D. Verse 7 Pharaoh's counselors and officers questioned Pharaoh and suggested, "How long will this man make trouble for us? Let the Hebrew people go to worship the LORD their God. For Egypt is on the verge of collapse?"

E. Verse 8 Moses and Aaron was summoned to the king. "Go and worship the LORD your God. But I want to know whose going?" Moses answered, "We are taking our youth, and the elderly, our sons and daughters, our flock, and herds, because we're going to honor the LORD with a feast."

F. Verse 10 Pharaoh said, " The LORD would really have to be with you before I let you or any of your children leave Egypt. You are planning something sinister! No! only your men may go and worship the LORD, that is what you wanted." The king had Moses and Aaron removed from his palace.

G. Verse 12 The LORD spoke to Moses, "Lift your hand over the land of Egypt, and the locusts will come. They will cover Egypt and devour the plants the hail didn't destroy."

(Note:Locust: the Hebrew word=Arbeh meaning multitude or Chagab: the grasshopper. The pests are destructive eating anything that's in their way that's green. When they fly they create sounds like thunder or heavy rain. However locusts don't travel during the night maybe due to poor eye sight. However these locusts were edible. What a delicacy? chocolate covered locust or seasoned in your stewed soup? or even fried grasshopper?)

H. Verse 13 Moses raised his rod and the locusts came. The LORD caused a strong east wind that blew the locust into Egypt. The whole land was black with swarms. Nothing that was green was left on any tree or plant in Egypt. Verse 16 The king summons Moses and Aaron and said, "I have sinned, forgive my sin. Ask the LORD your God to stop this killing punishment."

I. Moses prayed to the LORD. The west wind blew the locust into the Red Sea. Not one locust was left in Egypt. Verse 20 But the LORD caused the king to be stubborn again, and he did not let the Hebrew people go.

(Note: Pharaoh's heart can easily result in stubbornness because of his selfish goals to build Egyptian palaces with Hebrew slaves and with cruel punishments, and mocked their God for centuries. The time will come when will need to let the Hebrews become their own nation, have only one God, and serve Yah-weh only).
