The Study of the Walls of Jericho

Dr. Phillip Clark
The Walls of Jericho. The meaning of Jericho is the "Place of Fragrance." Starting from Joshua 2:2

A. Joshua the son of Nun sent two spies from Acacia and said to them, "Go search out the land, specially at the City of Jericho. So the men went Jericho and stayed with an harlot named Rahab. Someone told the king of the two men and the location of where they are to the King. The King sent message to Rahab: ti bring the men that came up to your house for they are here to spy on our land. But Rahab had hid the two men and said, They did come here and left in the evening and when it was time to close the city gate, they left. I don't know which way, but if you hurry you may catch up to them. (For the woman had hidden them on the roof amongest Stalk of flax.) So the kings men searched for the spies on the road leading to the crossing of the Jordan River.

B. Before the men could lay down and sleep for the night, Rehab came up to the roof.(Note: Rahab lived in the wall and at the penthouse suite. She was living in luxury. For her clients kept her well to do.) "We have heard of your LORD how he dried up the Red Sea when you came out of Egypt. How he destroyed Si-hon Og and the two Amorite Kings living in the east of Jordan. Everyone living in this land is afraid of your Lord God who rules the heavens and earth. So promise me before the LORD that you will have mercy on my family as I showed mercy to you. Spare my father, mother, brothers, sisters, and all of their descendants to live. Save us from destruction."

C. "We promise, when the Lord gives us this city and the land we will be merciful to you."

D. Rahab's house was built on the city wall and she used a rope to lure the men down through a window. She said to them, "Go to the hill's for three days till the kings men that sought you return to the city, then you may be on your way."

E. Then the men said unto her, "You must promise to obey everything we instruct you, if you don't were not responsible for what happens when we return to this city. You must tie a red rope in the window through which you let us down. Bring your father, mother, brothers, and all your kindred into the house."

F. "If anyone should depart your house and is killed, it is their own fault. If anyone in your house is harmed it is our fault. If you tell anyone about our agreement then we shall be blameless from the agreement."

G. Rahab agreed and sent them away and tied a red rope in the window. The men left for the hills for three days. When the kings men could not find the two men they returned to Joshua the son of Nun and reported in details everything that happened.

H. Then Joshua said, " Surely the LORD has given us the city. For the people there are scared of us."

Joshua 6

A. The people of Jericho were frightened because the Israelites were near. The city gates were closed for no one came in nor out.

B. The LORD spoke to Joshua, "Behold, I have given the city of Jericho unto your hands, the king and all its fighting men."

c. "March around the city once, for six days. Have seven priests with trumpets made of rams horns march in front of the Ark on the seventh day. On the seventh day march around the city seven times and on the seventh march, have the seven priests with the rams horns sound the trumpets with one long sound. When you hear the sound, have the people shout, then the walls of Jericho will fall and the people can march right in."

D. Joshua gave the order according to the instruction of the LORD. Carry the Ark of the Covenant. Seven priests carry trumpets and march in front. The soldiers with weapons should also march in front of the Ark of the Covenant.

E. Seven priests with trumpets marched before the LORD followed soldiers armed with weapons, which marched in front of the priests, and armed men marched behind the Ark.

F. After carrying the Ark around the city once they returned. Everyday for six days. The seven priests blowing their trumpets before the Ark of the Covenant marched with armed soldiers in front of them and soldiers behind the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant.

G. But on seven they got up and marched once like before for six times. On the seventh time the priests blew their trumpets, Joshua gave the command to shout, "For the LORD has given you the city. Everything in the city is to be destroyed except the house of Rahab, whose house is built in the city wall."

H. "All the silver, gold, brass, and things of iron belongs to the LORD, keep nothing." (Note: when an object, finances, things, body, cars, buildings, mind, heart, soul and etc is dedicated to the LORD it is no longer your possession. It belongs to the LORD. And we ought to manage them. Dedicating something before the manifestation is just as good as the thing being present. If you make a promise to the LORD to dedicate something, you best obey your own obligation. Don't steal from your blessing, nor from the LORD God.)

I. When the priests blew the trumpets the people shouted and ran toward the city. Everything was completely destroyed.

J. Rahab and all her house was spared and were brought out. All of her family was placed safely outside the city.

K. Joshua said, "Cursed be anyone who tries to rebuild the City of Jericho. For the LORD will curse them. For anyone laying the foundation of this city will lose their firstborn, and anyone who erects its gates will lose his youngest son.

L. So the LORD was with Joshua and his fame spread abroad.

(Note: Joshua's predecessor was Moses. Seven days it would take the walls to fall. By every step of faith the walls where weakened. Nothing is hard for God when you trust and obey him. The idea may sound odd, but your counting on the victory of obedience. There comes a time when you did all you can do, all you need to do is wait. They marched around an estimated 15ft to 25ft tall wall. They surveyed the land and knew they wanted the land. They thought the walls can't prevent me from having what is mine. For salvation belongs to you and you must protect your soul from the things that want to pollute this new land God has given you. For you have conquered the land, now rebuild. Your life deserve rebuilding and cleansing. Now keep your spiritual house clean. Even the harlot was saved, but not allowed to live in the new life. Although the harlot was saved the lifestyle must cease. For salvation will change your life, now you must change the style. You can no longer continue using sex as your source of income. When you come out of Jericho life living you must separate yourself from things that drew you in the first place. Your soul doesn't belong to you and your former partners need to stop. You cannot give an account for wherever they find their sex, as long as it's not with you any longer. Serve notice to your former clients, that you have changed. It's time to clean house from friends, books magazines, movies, porn, sex, and etc. COME OUT OF THIS AND BE SAVED. You will need God's love, church, pastor, guidance, prayer, and the dedication to God, to dedicate your bodily temple to God. Do it and do it today.)
